Was browsing the bookstand while waiting at the airport earlier today when I saw this new book for sale:
![]() http://www.andrew-roberts.net/pages/...orm_of_war.asp I must admit I always thought the title to be rather artless and rather hoped it would get changed before release. I never expected to see it snatched up by someone else. I wonder if Oleg is aware of this and if he or this Roberts fellow have tried to copyright it. Last thing I'd want to see is Oleg caught in some legal wrangle beacause the name was already taken. |

Interesting, thanks for posting. I'm am going by air on Wednesday, so I'll check this out too at the airport bookshop!
Yes, I've also wondered if BoB SoW might perhaps be a working title ... but then again Ubisoft have nabbed www.stormofwar.com. PPanPan |

I've seen at least one other book with Storm of War in the title, but I forget what war it was about. It was three or more years ago I think I saw it in a Waterstone's.

Worm of Store is better. ![]() Actually some else's suggestion of OMG = Oleg Maddox Games (posted in one of the update threads) is the perfect resolve. It allows for non-combat add-ons too.

Although, how many books have Battle of Britain in the title? Surely if the phrase is extended, it is of little consequence? I thought SoW was just a placeholder and subject to change...
although having said that, I have always really like the name. It has a great ring to it. Or, is SoW a general title for the sim's franchise? If so, I can see why there may be trouble, but then again hasn't Oleg already marketed the SoW name? |

It doesn't take much to work around SOW...IL2 SOW,etc.
I suspect Oleg will prominently display IL2, because it is so well regarded. It would not make sense for him not to play up the IL2 a great deal. Also, Oleg was mentioning SOW about 5 years ago. So, it could be any conflict could require the other party to drop the SOW. |

How long has it been since Oleg mentioned the name SoW? I'm just asking out of curiosity. I'll try a search of his posts and see
![]() Just noticed this comment in his posts: Don't worry. It is already better here in every detail. He wrote this when a question was posed about the graphical capabilities of SoW vs Il-2. Quick note: i've searched, quickly, but can't find anything...interesting. I haven't searched for long though, so there's every chance I'm wrong. Last edited by philip.ed; 10-11-2010 at 07:44 PM. |

The book is THE storm of war.. In copyright terms the 'THE' is important. I would be very suprised if SoW hadn't been registered very early on in the process, it could explain why the book has THE in the title maybe the author wanted to call it SoW but someone said no because it's already registered..? 'The storm of war' feels a bit clunky to me.

Good point Winny.
Although in this context, I think 'the' has it's place in the novel's title. It would sound chunky for the game, but for the title of the book I think it works ![]() |
