Thanks for that, amazing stuff.
Watching the people who worked in the spitfires talking - ordinary men and woman - I can't help but wonder where did it all go wrong for the UK. Such a fine generation. |

It includes an old Douglas Bader. The man made it an old man after all.
At 13:15 the talk about the 109e having 1 nose cannon and 4 machine guns. In fact E1 had 4 machine guns E3+E4 had 2 machine guns and 2 cannons in the wings. I do not know if there was a 109e that had nose cannon.

They weren't discussing 109e's specifically though - they were talking about 109's in general.
I'm fairly confident that Bader and Tuck knew their 109s - perhaps not as well as your average banana forumite of course, what with his unfailing knowledge of all things botanical or aeronautical - but they did their best I'm sure and that's the main thing. If only the banana forum could have flown in 1940! Thing would have been so different. A few proper experts about. Last edited by Novotny; 08-19-2010 at 08:09 PM. |

The DB601Aa engine intended for the E-3 could mount an MG FF 20mm cannon on its crankcase, the weapon in turn firing through the airscrew hub. However, the problems of vibration, seizing and overheating that had beset the engine-mounted MG FF persisted, and was rarely used in frontline service.

This video is awesome.
Did you see those booster/take off "jets" on that seafire? Also, the story of that ride on the tail is really incredible! wow |

Thanks for posting this great vid!
If I'm not mistaken, One of Douglas Baders relatives actually has (had?) an Aviation Gallery in Virginia, near D.C. It had a 'Dogsbody' Hurricane painting in the front window So I assumed it was a Bader relative. It was just a few minutes walking from the local Metro station (who's name escapes me at the moment). Unfortunately, It was closed on the evening I spotted it. |

Notice the total lack of vanity, hubris and conceit of Johnnie E Johnson And Margaret Horton who casually recall their foibles and have no problem smiling/laughing at themeselves. What a great sense of humor! and a statement of the generation of the times.

Indeed! We could all learn something from that generation. I'm very lucky in that my grandfather, who fought with the 11th armoured, is still around to shout at his grandsons. He and his kind are amazing.
