I happen to be browsing YouTube the other evening, and I came across two video clips of CFS1 (Combat Flight Simulator 1) and EAW (European Air War) - they are called "ten years on - European Air War" and "ten years on - Combat Flight Sim 1". My goodness, how far things have come since then (1998 I think!?).
Of course there are other clips of "old" sims - even some clips of my very first flight sim "Su-27 - Flanker" I would guess 1996/1997, which, I recall, had a very sophisticated weapons system, but the graphics were obviously very plain/basic (magnificent for that time, of course!). What these videos also show, is the "genius" and attention to detail of Oleg and his team. I suggest that you have a look at how high "the bar" was 12 years ago and compare it with what is being done today - a combination of more powerful computers and sophisticated programming. They also make some of the "requests", that one reads on this forum, even more "amusing" - we're lucky to be living in this time! |

Hey, I wet my pants at the fantastic graphics playing Elite on my Apple ][+
![]() Although fun going back and re-visiting old games, it's not hard to realise why we still run out and blow our budgets buying the latest systems and graphics cards we can afford. And we still got many years of upgrades to go! Most of my old sims have moved out into the Shed in a plastic box, too hard getting them to work on modern hardware. Every so often I get a rush of blood and try to put Janes ATF on my PC, but it's never quite the same! Cheers! Last edited by Skoshi Tiger; 08-17-2010 at 08:31 AM. Reason: n |
