Default IL-2 doesn't detect my joystick

I've been using a good old reliable sidewinder precision 2 joystick for quite a long time by now and never had problems with it, but after I woke up today and started playing IL-2 this morning, the game suddenly stopped knowing of the existance of the joystick that it's been interracting with for years. I reinstalled the device with the disc that came with package of the joystick, so I believe the problem is within the game. Kinda annoying, because just recently I've begun to really get interested to play this game again after a long while. Please help.

I dunno if it matters, but I got Windows Vista and IL-2 1946.

So your joystick was working with IL-2 yesterday but isn't detected today? Have you installed/uninstalled or plugged/unplugged anything since yesterday? Is your joystick still being detected by Windows (in devices list)?

Question #1: Yes.
Question #2: No.
Question #3: I thought it was, but appereantly it isn't. Or just uses a different name than "SideWinder Precision 2" or something like that in the device list.

Had this too, same stick, joystick came back to life on its own, went dead, came back, went dead, came back over the course of several months, and eventually I bought a new one.

Are you plugging it in via any sort of USB hub? I've heard this can cause problems with some hardware, in which case try plugging it directly into your computer. Other than that, I don't know. You may have to go down the same route as JtD.

I have it plugged directly, so I guess I'll just wait and see if it'll come back to life by tommorow... I won't bother to go all the way to a store and buy another joystick for one single game, yet.

It "came back to life" now, which I'm really happy of. Hopefully it won't die again...
