Default Just Wondering Question

Now that IL2 is getting old and SOW will push it aside (yes..you will have the diehards)

what WW2 plane did you really want to see that never made it to the game?

No including Mods...I play the official game.

I wanted the HE 177 Greif

I like fighters, so maybe the Sunderland as that was expected to fight bombers off convoys out of range of land based fighters.

Or the Swordfish.

I REALLY wish there was a Typhoon. Yes we have the Tempest but that is a bit of a different beast nonetheless.

I would imagine that when all is said in done the SOW series will have more aircraft than the IL-2 series. I can also see the SOW series having a longer life than IL-2. SOW modders will be given better tools to develop new aircraft. Even developers who make aircraft for FSX etc could start providing aircraft to the SOW series. Of course the SOW developers will have quality restrictions especially for on-line play.

True but there is a long road to go until SoW gets anywhere near the capacity of IL2, and besides the details and work that go into SoW is just so much more than IL2 that everything will take longer.

This is true. On the other hand IL-2 now has detailed cockpits that were in most cases meticulously researched which means that some of the problems from 10 years ago of not having the resources are "solved".

Well, SOW has the potential to develop into a full blown WW2 sim (rubs hands gleefully), with all aspects of aerial warefare.

Hopefully Oleg has made allowances for core engine upgrades..

For a pacific theatre we just need maps, planes and palm trees. By the time the African add-ons are produced we'll have the palm trees so that only leaves the maps and planes.

If the SOW engine will let us have large maps and aircraft carrier, its only a matter of time before we revist the Pacific.

I personally would like a south west pacific map, North coast of New Guinea and west through Dutch East Indies, Borneo etc. It kind of gets forgotten , with all the emphasis on US Carrier opperations.

I'm on holidays next Thursday and am going on a nine day walk along the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea (Dad fought along there during the war!) Along the way theres a chance of seeing a few relics of downed aircraft. Should be fun!

Cheers!
