I have recently been playing another unnamed game and have been seriously impressed by the details (graphics, sounds etc.) that all add up to an immense sense of 'being there'. At times, the sense of 'being there' is so great, I have found myself being totally sucked in and actually afraid to 'go there' or 'do that'. It's not often a game can do that.
I know Oleg and team do not have the resources of some of the giant software houses which makes what they are making all the more incredible. The efforts they are going to to add to the immersion are incredible ... the dynamic shadows in cockpit, the 3D glass effect instruments, the long grass & general vegetation, the amazing atmospheric effects etc. I wonder what other small details, when all added together, could raise the immersion factor still higher? Maybe increased wind noise when a cockpit canopy is broken? If the canopy is open or holed, maybe maps or checklists inside the cockpit could flutter? Fluttering gun port tape? Barking Squadron dog seen running across to your aircraft as you approach dispersal? Chairs and tables kicked over as pilots scramble to their aircraft? The sheer shock of being hit by bullets/shells really makes you think twice about sitting on a bomber's 6. The dense fog forming over your home airfield gets your heart really racing as you struggle to find the runway. I am not saying that any/all of these are the best ideas, but it would be interesting to hear what you all think ... ... which takes me on to a related matter. I had already started a thread on this topic of 'immersion' the other day but it was removed by the moderator. I then started another thread asking why my original thread was removed. That thread too was removed. No PMs and no courtesy was shown to a long standing and active member of this forum. No right for me to reply or for other forum members to contribute/make up their own minds. Before the threads were pulled, some members did reply with intelligent and very interesting ideas/thoughts. Thank you especially to Zapatista and philip.ed. This post is on topic and I don't think I have been rude, so please don't delete it and let the other members here have their say. Thanks, rant over. Hi
I saw your thread and I have to agree with Nearmiss on his decision. Theres too much crap posted here of late non related to Storm of War & IL21946 If you had made your original thread regarding immersion via "insert video game title here" more contextual to the forum requirements/rules, then it probaly wouldnt have got pulled. I moderate and run a few forums and would have done the same as Nearmis, I dont think you should take it so personally as you was not dealt with on a personal level just treated as another junk/spam thread. Perhaps you should have taken more time with your OP as you have with your rant ![]() Last edited by KG26_Alpha; 07-13-2010 at 03:37 PM. |

Don’t give up PeterPanPan!
You are a great contributor to this forum and if you do you we will be one less who try to keep this forum kosher. The management of this forum is a disappointment as well as a puzzle to me. Regards Viking |

Thanks for your post KG26_Alpha. I respect your opinion although we'll have to agree to disagree
![]() 1 - This forums is ONLY for discussions regarding, IL2 Sturmovik series, Daidaios Team's work and the upcoming BOB SOW. 2 - Discussion about, referrals and links to mods or MOD sites is prohibited on this site. On re-reading my original post I can see it read a bit like a advert but all I was trying to do was explain where I was coming from and set the scene for those who didn't know about my point of reference i.e. the other game. Heck, I could go on but I'm starting to bore myself now, so what chance do I have?! ![]() I'll be more careful next time but I would ask others to be a little less quick to judge, particularly when a post comes from a known forum member. Simple misunderstanding is what this is; I think the Internet should have been called this instead.

To be honest your better off posting over at simhq if you want a proper discussion about anything SOW related, there are far fewer fanbois and people tend to be a lot more relistic about where we 'are' with SOW and where we would like to be. You can be honest with your opinions/idea's without fear of ridicule or being banned.

Quoted for truth. For a neutral discussion without risking being flamed due to your opinions head on over to SIMHQ, more mature people over all if you ask me. Example.. Sadly there are still people here who believes that SOW will be some kinda gigant ultra simulator with Red Orchestra Tank combat and more... |

This is the 1C developers forums. It is not a gabby, talk about anything forums.
Oleg and TD developers regularly frequent the site. Also, they frequently respond to postings. Isn't that worth something? You can actually get answers to viable thread discussions. Is it right that Oleg and TD developers have to read through a ton of verbal goolash to respond to a topic? Don't you think it is good we have this forums, where we can get responses from the people who actually are doing something with IL2 and SOW? Why can't this be understood... the developers are busy, yet they often respond to "members on this forums". I can't tell you how many years they have had an Olegs Ready Room at Ubisoft and we never got a response from Oleg for years. Why because the ORR is now and was then poorly moderated. Oleg just had better things to do than read all the rants, complaints and verbal garbage. Seriously, you get responses here and weekly updates. We moderators want to keep the integrity of this forums, so that developers are comfortable to reply and share. I think that is a good thing. There are plenty of other sites as mentioned above where they have a number of forums and allow a very broad range of discussions. There is only one forums here in order to focus discussions on the development of SOW, the IL2 series developments and member support. When we get complaints from other members about off topic postings it is common practice to deal with those postings, and it rarely means they stay published.
