Unfortunately I can't figure out how to start a poll in this forum.
We've all heard Oleg say that the SoW engine will support DirectX 9, 10 and 11. However, that doesn't necessarily mean that it will leverage all the advanced features of Direct3D 10 and 11; i.e. the engine will work in DirectX 11 but could still look like it does in DirectX 9. It would probably help with design decisions if the developers new what OS users are running, and thus how many users have access to DirectX 10/11 on newer OS's (not to mention 64-bit processing and the infinite RAM limit that goes with it). So what will be your platform of choice? - Windows XP - Windows Vista 32-bit - Windows Vista 64-bit - Windows 7 32-bit - Windows 7 64-bit Last edited by Mango; 11-17-2009 at 11:19 PM. |

I'll probably go with W7 64bit and use DX10 as I don't plan to upgrade to a DX11 card just yet due to budget constraints.

2. Poll is not necessary. Designers don't give a crap what os you use. They code for optimization of hardware. The PC Gaming OS standard is windows so they all code to the top tier version. That only leaves 64bit optimization - and multi core support. All of which have been confirmed for S.O.W Battle of Britain. Almost everyone will be on window 7 ....... so pick your flavor. I use Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit because I need the networking functionality .... unless you work in IT and need advanced networking features ** Almost everyone will be VERY WELL served by Home/Professional editons. Save some money that way too. Not too mention significantly fewer processes running and lower memory footprint. Last edited by 13th Hsqn Protos; 11-18-2009 at 02:51 AM. |

I'll still be on XP Pro as I won't be building a new machine for some time.

LOL!
@ Topic: Win7 64bit And for the question about DirectX: You won't have that much of a choice. If you stick with XP you are limited to DX9, if you have Vista, you can choose between DX10 and 11 and if you have Win7 you automatically have DX11 integrated. The only chance to have DX9, 10, or 11 supported is by chosing an older graphics card, but that has nothing to do with your OS and the initial question ![]() |
