Unable to fight the Kraken

When i was going to fight the Kraken after following the pirate there i fought it the first time and died. The second time i went to get more troops and when i returned i tried for about an hour to get into the fight, Without success. Is their a thing i have to do before that? The battle started instantly beforehand.
