Default No perfect mode in Windows 7

Hi Folks, i successfully installed IL-2 1946 under Windows 7 using a.exe and patched the game to 4.08 and then 4.09.

Then i tried to enable hardwareshaders=1 in the conf.ini to enable the perfect landscape mode. OpenGL and stencil buffers are activated.

But ... perfect mode is not available and after ending the game the setting of hardwareshaders change automatically back to 0 again in conf.ini! Also the settings water and effects change back to 1 in the conf.ini!

Any help please?!

Probably due to file permissions

A way around the permissions is sometimes to edit the file on the desktop, then drop it back in. You should also hit "save" and not "save as".

Definitely permissions... I use windows 7 and I don't have a problem at all... I have it running in perfect... what you can do to overrun the permissions in you config.ini file is copy and paste OUTSIDE the il2 game folder, edit any dumb stuff outside and save, then copy and paste back inside the game folder.... it might work.

BACKUP YOUR .INI FILE JUST IN CASE

I'd tell you just to go to permissions' settings in windows and edit, but it is a REAL pain in the back side.

Good luck

Hi!

I'm not sure if the problem is the permissions - I am able to change the conf.ini as i want. I change hardwareshaders to 1 and "save", then open conf.ini again and hardwareshaders are 1.

But if i run the game, the game changes the setting back to 0!

Realplayer... that used to happen to me too... it's because the GAME being a third party entity, doesn't have permissions to modify the files inside the folder, it's a weird thing I solved by just moving a few files, however, if I'm honest, I don't remember which ones... keep trying and let us know your progress, but believe me is not a difficult thing to solve, it's just a bit tricky

Is your copy of IL-2 installed in Program Files?

No, it's not installed in Program Files. I installed it in "E:\Spiele\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946" (I am Austrian).

Moving the whole game folder to another place doesnt change anything ...

I've tried to write-protect the conf.ini. The result was that i still could not enable perfect mode, but the conf.ini remained unchanged ...

Big mystery

I had this problem when installing IL-2 on my new computer that I built which runs Windows 7 64 bit. I tried everything, then eventually discovered my desktop display was set to 16 bit color mode (how it got that way I have no idea). Setting it to 32 bit solved it. I hope this helps, Good Luck, S!

I have Windows 7 64 Bit too.

My desktop runs already in 32 Bit color mode.

I don't understand this ...
