Default Hunters In The Sky - the ultimate G'up

i work at a DVD store and was cleaning the documentary aisle when i came across the dvd "Hunters In The Sky: Aces of WW2" and after watching it for a bit, i got so G'd up to play IL-2 sturmovic BoP. its EPIC. its about the real aces of WW2 + has real footage of dogfights, planes being shot down and fighter pilots stories of their greatest kills.

here what the case looks like:

i was stunned, finding it hard to fly let alone shoot down a plane in realistic mode, you hear from a german fighter Ace who shot down 320+ fighters in his time! 320+!!!!! thats insane.

anyways, just thought id let you other people know that this DVD is a massive pump up. makes you wanna hit IL-2 hard. if your down your local DVD shop and see it, you gotta have a watch aye

just to end with a quote from the DVD
"A top world war 2 Ace once said that fighter pilots fall into two broad categories: those who go out kill and those who, secretly, desperately, know they are going out to get killed - the hunters and the hunted" - General Nathan F. Twining, USAF

i seen that series didnt think it was that great tbh. Lots of repetions with footage.

Some good A/C films and Docs for you to check out.

Mephis Belle : A story of a Flying Fortress
This is the real thing, its last mission filmed from inside the plane.
Bit of properganda never hurt no one lol

Dark Blue World
This film is more of a love story than anything but it has an accurate view of airplane combat.

Battlefield S01E02- The Battle Of Britain

You should know the fact that german pilots sometimes had that insane numbers of shoot down enemy planes, is because they served in the war untill the war ended or they where killed.
Now for the allied they served like what, 25 missions in combat and then return home.
Just some info

Let's not forget that a lot of the luftwaffe pilots also had combat experience from the spanish civil war.

And with most of them German aces, the majority of kills were on the eastern front.

I may very well be off on this, but if I recall, the 25 missions and go home was for bomber crews. I'll have to look into my grandfathers (RIP) memoirs (if and when I get the opportunity again), as he flew C47s in the USAAF carrying the 82nd Airborne from Operation Overlord thru to the end of the war. If (it's a BIG if) I can get my dad to open up the crate with his uniform in it, I will take pics, and scan pics of him standing on the horizontal stab of an Me-262 that was captured by one of the fighter squadrons stationed at the same airfield. I recall him saying something about "Hells Highway"? He also spoke of an occasion after France had been liberated, and they were stationed just outside of Paris at that point, and the fog, lack of onboard radar, winds and the like, he had done an instrument check in heavy fog, looked up out the windscreen, and "there was the Eiffel Tower. You'll never see a C47 bank that hard in your lifetime." My grandmother has said he was gone for over 3 years, they got married and off he went, not to come home until the war was over. I know she still has all of his letters, both that she sent him, and he sent her. Well, enough of that for now; I still miss him, he was a wonderful human being.
