Default Weird AV8R Incident

So, I was playing one of the Korsun Pocket single missions last night when something strange happened. I have a crappy SD TV, so I sit right in front of it with my AV8R on a little table. As I was flying along I noticed a speck of dirt on the TV. I grabbed a kleenex and went to wipe it off. I still had my other hand on the stick. All of a sudden, ZAP! A frikkin giant spark shot out of the stick & hit me in the middle finger! The finger went numb for like 2-3 minutes. What's weirder is my La-5 immediately started rolling to the left like I had the stick hard over. The buttons still responded, but the stick wouldn't, so I spun into the ground. I respawned and the same thing happened again. After unplugging the stick and plugging it back in everything went back to normal. So anyways, there is apparently an improperly insulated wire inside the AV8R stick. Beware!

Maybe you are taking BOP way too seriously, and it is so bad that you actually took a machine gun round and it came though the wind screen and hit your stick? lol

sounds as you say likea static discharge.
The flight stck wouldnt have that much electricity entering it anyway and it would either be earthed or double insulater.

CRT television? My old school 36", 250LB Mitsubishi monster would LIGHT YOU UP if you touched the screen You probably got zapped by the TV, and you in turn zapped your flight stick, which freaked out your console. Static has a high voltage, and can jump a good gap. I could also touch said TV while touching my unsuspecting brother on the shoulder and light him up too

I agree. The controller didn't shock you, you shocked the controller. Thankfully the controller restored itself but you should still apologise to it.

Good point. I didn't think of that. I've touched the tv to remove dust & stuff before without a shock nearly that bad though. Maybe something in the controller caused it to act as a ground?

Yeah but were you sitting on carpet? Every small move you made against the carpet would have built up your own static to add to the TV's.

Short of wearing flannel pajamas while repeatedly rubbing your socked feet on the carpet and grabbing the joystick with a saltwater soaked sponge, I think you described the perfect recipe for a nasty static shock.
