X52 Joystick setup

Hi everyone, I finally got 1946 reinstalled and my joystick out of the closet, and I want to make sure I get the stick working properly. With my first run of 1946 about a year ago, I had no idea how to create a profile/download and use one. I tried to create my own profile but most things I set wouldn't actually work in the game. How do I set up my controls? Do I create a profile through the profiler software and unbind all the controls ingame? Any help would be appreciated, I'm really excited to finally get into this game.
