Default "Launcher has stopped working"

Ok, so I just upgraded to an Nvidia GeForce GTX 580. Before, I was using a 9500GT card and was able to fly the sim (at low gfx settings). Now, when I load a flight (i.e. solo flight in training), the progress bar goes across, and I see the cockpit for a moment, then get a box stating that "Launcher has stopped working". The details given are:

Description:

Anyone have any ideas why this is happening?

Thanks for any help.

I had a similar issue - rename both conf and confs.ini in *both* locations. One in the Steam directory and the other in your documents/1C SoftClub/... directory.

I was trashing one or the other and was barely getting the game to load. Deleted both files from both locations and no launcher errors since. The game *should* recreate them.

Hi Purg... I did that this am, and now I can't even get the sim to load. As soon as I click on the shortcut, I get the "Launcher has stopped Working" msg. I reverted the conf and confs filenames back to their original names, and still nothing.

Thanks Cheesehawk... it did fix the problem.

I upgraded my system some... I changed to a stronger power supply (850W), changed to an NVidia GTX 580 w/1.5GB, and doubled my RAM to 8GB.

Now, I can fly two complete missions, but start to see some stuttering as I land at the end of the 2nd mission, and when I'm done, and hit ESC, the sim drops me back to my desktop. If I hit ESC again, I'm back in the cockpit. Hit ESC a 3rd time, and I'm back to my desktop, and the sim fails to respond, and I have to use Task Manager to end the program.

There's not much more that I can do to my system, that I know of. I'm new to the world of "overclocking" stuff (i.e. I don't know squat about overclocking... LOL).

Anyone have any thoughts on how to make this sim work a bit longer, without the freeze-up after two missions?

Thanks,

Ed

Saw something posted in another thread, concerning the opening UBIsoft splash screen. I went ahead and renamed the file, and, wow! Now Ive just finished flying the British campaign, from the start to the mission where I transfer into Spits, before I got an "out of memory" notification (whereupon the sim quit). A huge increase in performance!

To disable the splash screen, go to:

Steam>Steamapps>Common>IL2-Sturmovik Cliffs Of Dover>Parts>Gui.

Then rename logo.wmv to lego.wmv or something.
