How to use a bayonet?

The blade's attached to the rifle. There's an enemy next to the merc.
I noticed that when I hover the mouse cursor on the underbarrel launcher icon,
it's greyed out and the tooltip reads "Bayonet (unavailable)".

How do I use the bayonet?
