Default realistic rookie

i'm an okay pilot in arcade and will fly against or with anyone anytime... been shot down buy the best and have shot down some of the best... except dk... might have got gilly once

but as i read in another thread, it seems players are scarce and if i get an invite and i'm not in a game i'll usually join...

i accepted one a while ago and it turned out to be a realistic game and oh my what a difference. i had never played real online before. needless to say i had my ass handed to me and have ever since... my hands are full and i can't hold anymore!!! LOL

anyway... i don't mind realistic and have got to the point where i can land the Hurricane quite readily in CTA... but i just can't get a handle on flying... STALL STALL STALL... WTF... even pulling a semi tight turn @ 90 percent throttle.... STALL.... Spin... burn...

i have quite a bit of fun trying though

after all that... here's my point... i tell the guys in the lobby that i am totally a rookie pilot in real and i just get shredded by these guys. i'm not complaining about getting killed but i am complaining that there are other folks in the game who would be more of a challenge to shoot down than me.

i know it happens in all modes of the game and have seen it in arcade countless times... but come on... i know when i see a rookie i don't continue to pound on him and i even will let him get some kills to help his ego and keep him playing...

there... i feel better having said that

I get your point siteseeker. For a lot of guys it's only about getting the kills. I have had many a sigh to myself playing realitic to; 'Give me a break here guys! I might keep on trying to learn how to fly this motherf*#%er and play this mode, if you only could stop shooting me down as soon as I have respawned!'

Arcade is not a challenge any more. Realistic could be. Even SIM could, but I think it's vital to give the rookies a chance to get a grip on it. Or else the new pilots will get theire morale crashed, and they'll abandon the game completely.

A little tip for starters... Adjust the ailerons and elevators sensitivity down a few notches. That should help on the stallingfrequense. And ignore the stallingwarning.

PS
Dont forget to play with different ailrons and elevator settings.........
This makes a huge differnce in realistic and especially sim.

The general opinion about ailerons/elevators settings on Spitfires seems to be, leave ailerons on full and set the elevators six clicks from the right, all the other planes you'd need to play around with. Try flying one of the LA series as they are pretty forgiving.

Also try to be gentle with your initial movements, if you wanna pull up hard dont just pull straight back, start slowly then pull through, the stall warning is almost constant in dogfights but the plane will start to behave differently just before it stalls properly which should give you a second to try and get some airspeed back. Also try not to use the rudder too much, just a dab here and there.

It's trial and error at first but you can soon work out what works and what kills you. (in between all the respawning...)

Stick with it siteseeker, for me it clicked pretty early and once you've got it its considerably more rewarding than arcade. McQ and winny are both right in what they say about 'handling'. Set the sensitivity low and then move progressively upwards until you find the right balance. Your still going to fall out of the sky every once in a while( especially when a G6 has just put a huge hole in your wing, not mentioning any names McQ, winny, shadow, ratman..!!) but you'll find that the stall warning is more an annoyance blocking your view than a 'panic, it's going to drop'.
I'd suggest doing winnys race course as a good practice point. It helps you learn to turn and fly without the bullets on the outward leg and then firing practice on the return all under 'controlled' conditions. Drop me a line and I'll happily join you, similarly I'm happy to provide a 'target' to practice with. Most of the guys on here are on most nights and would hope most would do the same.
Rest assured, we all had to start somewhere and go through the same pain, and still do, but stick with it and it'll come

Default I am very sorry to hear about this.

I am very sorry to hear about this.

We have so few people now who fly BoP that we can not afford to lose anyone.

I am sure this is the case on both PS3 and XBOX.

The guys I fly with on XBOX often try to beak up teams so there will be a good and fair match (it is really no fun when it gets very lop-sided). Occasionally we want to fly together and because most are Aces now it may become unfair, so we try not to do that too often. There seem to be a lot of new and very good pilots on lately so it has been a sort of “free for all” in many rooms. Send me a FR and we will try to get you into a well matched dogfight.

And please tell all who come over from Arcade to adjust there Elevator settings to approximately:

Spitfire: Halfway (center of graph)

109’s: 4-5 “blocks” down

LA’s (5&7): 2-3 “blocks” down

Ailerons may remain full.

Start with these settings and adjust to your flying style, if you start to stall a lot bring the elevators down a little, if you never stall bring them up a little.

We are here to help, and we want all who fly to have a good time!

There is usually a good group of realistic folks (Davedog, ChameleonLord, etc) on in the evenings. Often we'll play smaller games, so they would be good to learn on. Also, Winny's idea of joining up on some of the none shooting events, such as DK's races or free flights, would greatly help you on seat time to control the aircraft in realistic.

In any case, look for me. I'll gladly oblige by flying a bf-110 around as a darling target until you get your realistic bearings.

I'd suggest we get a 'free session' set up where anyone who wants to just have a free fly, get to know the aircraft etc without the 'pressure' of dogfighting. There's the best I know replying above and any of them will teach you a great deal. I invited Branko into her first realistic game earlier and she's stated how great she found it! Pick a plane and stick to it, learn it's strengths and you'll soon be downing the best of them!
