Question Disciples 3

Is this game in any way similar to KB games?
For what I've read it has units and is turn-based, just asking because I love both KB games and would like to play games similar to it, so I am wondering if I should buy it or not.

not really, Kings bounty games have thier unique game play. You can try heroes of might and magic 3. Its kinda like an old version of this game. they are coming out with an expansion for kings bounty armored princess in september though

kB:TL/AP is more in comparsion with HOMM series(all versions)

in HOMM u don't have real time and EVERYTHING IS TURN based) but with almost same units as in homm

disciples
is like the same wise

however
disciples 1 and 2 had limited space
only 6 units per stack(no huge quantities)

heroes could get equipment and potions)

but that's it

in disciples 3 however

they improved the battle systems

so unit could walk like in the homm 5/expansion series

(however for further ingame knowlegde i have no clue)

but disciples was a great game

worth a try anyway

I actually tried Heroes V but didn't like it at all, hoping Disciples 3 is more like KB but with more 'realistic' looking graphics. (I love KB graphics too)

I used to love heroes 3 (I use the term 'used' simply because I've not played it in years) however I tried heroes V and disciples 2 this past year and disliked both of them; found them very boring and simplistic (single player campaign for both). No clue what disciples 3 will be like but given how much I dlsliked 2 I'm not holding my fingers crossed.

I should probably go back and play homm 3 again and see if I still like it; just to see if i've changed or the above mentioned games are really soured. Anyways if you are looking for an interesting TBS game you might take a peak at elemental war (to be released in august). This game is looking wickedly good to me.

Fyi: comparing homm v to KB - I played KB-L and KB-AP both more than 10 full games (that's a huge number of hours) where as HOMM V I had to struggle to finish the campaign and one day I might try the two add ons (it was a steam bundle over christimas for the fullset).

Another game you might consider is Eschalon book 2 (indie game). Anyways hopefully crossroads will come out soon. I plan to go back and play KBL again one of these days when time permits; had sort of hoped the editor would work with both games as I like the spell tweaks in KB-Ap but sort of prefer the rage chest and story as a whole in KB-L.

i agree. HOMM3 has almost the exact same style of fighting. Its pretty much the exact same game. The only difference is the movement on the map is not real time. the KB games are pretty much a direct root of HOMM3.

From what I have read so far online, disciple 3 is a good game but some of the combat AI is pretty poor and overall some of the original bugs from the Russian version are still there. The unit balance are also a bit weak but the graphics and the fights are interesting. I would say wait a bit after the game come out, read a few good review(on the official forum) and then decide if you want to buy the game or not. Crossworlds isn't too far away. It's probably gonna be a solid game.

Some of the bugs are present, but in general, the game has been improved. There are free play maps, most of the bugs are gone. Still, the AI is somewhat stupid... It usually lets you take control of the focus points (double damage) which practically is a "I win the battle" button.

Kinda runis the game, but still, the textures are great and the units are very beautiful. Especially the female ones. However, the big eyes on some units do ring of some manga style chars, but still, it is a job well done.

EDIT: And of course, let's not forget that HOMM derived from King's bounty 1 So in general we should compare Disciples 3 with KB1 There was already such a topic on the forums. KB1 was launched in 1993 by the company of the very creator of HOMM - John Van Caneghem, and was used as a standpoint to create HOMM1.

I tried the demo and thought it sucked so I deleted it and think I'll pass on it. Found something as simple as moving on the map incredibly annoying much less the rest of the game. Most of this is a UI issue but it was enough of a turn off that I decided to pass on this one.
