Default Take offs/landings? / Co-op against bots?

A lot of flight sims these days (Ace Combat, HAWX) really don't have take offs/landings, or if they do they're few and far between. What about this game?

Also can a buddy and I play against the computer, either in the campaign or bot matches? Or is the only multiplayer competitive? Thanks in advance.

Neither Ace Combat nor HAWX are flights sims, they both cater to the arcade end of the gaming spectrum, but to answer your question, yes, take offs and landings will feature in Birds of Prey. There is even an online mode devoted to capturing airfields by landing on them, and if the game follows Il2 tradition every mission will start with taking off manually. On the harder difficulty settings it will probably end with landing too.

There is a new hands on preview by someone who has played the older Il2 games up on Eurogamer now. Apparently one of the four online modes will be co-op and the missions in singleplayer start with a takeoff on realistic and simulator difficulties, and once you have completed the mission objectives you have the choice of ending the game or keeping on playing and doing what you want, including landing back at your base.

I don't believe that's correct, unfortunately.
We confirmed a while back that there is no co-op with friends vs. bots.
We get a single player campaign, single player somewhat customizable training missions and MP. They said 3 of 4 MP types are team based due to the 4th one being a free for all deathmatch with no teams (or sanity).

The article states there are no SP take offs, but if you read through the comments there is a correction by the author, Tim Stone, in which he says some of the SP missions will include takeoffs. Hopefully there is a host option to start players on the ground or in the air in multiplayer.

Your probably right about the lack of co-op though, I just saw that three out of four multiplayer modes would be team based and assumed the other one would be co-op.

Yeah I saw that, which is why I edited. That's good news. Could be better if it was an option on all of them though.
Co-op in the training missions would've been sweet as well. Maybe on the next game.

Hopefully the training missions will be like the Quick Mission builder in the older Il2s. It would have been nice to try that with some friends. Possibly the reason why some of the missions start in the air is that some are like the mission I have seen where you are controlling the guns only on a bomber, and taking off is no fun unless you are the pilot.
