Default C++ Error

I bought this game around christmas and I enjoy it for the most part. I have been getting upset though, because for some reason, at seemingly random times, it tell me that the game was told to end itselt with a C++ error and it seems that it happens sooner and sooner the longer I try and play it at one time. Im running a new PC just built for me, 64bit XP perfessional and I dont know how to get a list of my system specs to find out what is wrong. Can someone please help me fix this so that I can enjoy the game?

Okay, I need help and I have not heard a single responce to my issue since I posted. I tried using the patch 1.7 and now that I installed THAT, it says that I have the 'wrong disk' in the driver. can someone explain to me how to get this thing working? I bought it, now I would like to enjoy it.

You download the wrong patch. If the box your game came in has the Atari name on it, you need to download the earlier patch. You can just download and install it over what you already patched then everything should work. I made the same mistake a little while ago.
