I wonder if Sow will stop the arcade style if flying like:
-crash in order to respawn earlier -killing the plane when landing or flipping it over etc. What I mean is that there should be some sort of punishment(maybe in waiting time) for destroying the plane deliberately. |

I assume that there will be an ability to choose the amount of realism when flying the sim (just as in IL-2).
If the campaign/points system is reasonable it will reward you when you land and give a penalty if you bail out just to get a new aircraft. But you will still find people who don't consider points as the reason for the game. Il2 will take an aircraft off your team and award you half points for any kills if you don't get your plane back home. (Set up on the server I think) also they can limit the number of aircraft for your team. If you run out of planes your team looses. As for shooting planes landing or vulching as being arcadish. I'ld respectfully disagree. In a war your job is to destroy the enemies assets first and then get home to write home to mum. If you are given the opportunity to get an easy kill, you go for it! What is arcadish is not having your airbases with adequate aircover to ensure that the vulching can't happen. Last edited by Skoshi Tiger; 02-15-2009 at 06:24 AM. |

I do hope that SOW, with its realistic map, will stop the GPS cheat icon on the online servers.

Maybe it could not be that easy for SoW engine to find exactly out when you land "properly" (as you say).
Imagine a noob who is struggling for a safe landing, maybe hit and maybe with a poorly configured joystick...who decides on landing properness ?? If he crashes, did he crash on purpose ?? |

Say you shoot down one single engine fighter and then: 1) You get shot up and bail out or are shot up and killed. You get 10 points. 2) You land but you stuff up the landing and parts of your plane are strewn all about. 50 points. 3) You land properly with your plane intact and your crew chief is happy with you. You get 100 points. Many people who jump online haven't practiced flying. They are interested in combat only. Taxiing, taking off, landing, carrier traps, trimming planes, using gunsights and bombsights, and so forth are ignored for a while. Until they learn.

How can any game deal with people who just don't care? On the server side, if the admins are keeping an eye out they can boot people from a game and ban their user. I was on one sever a good while back where someone spawned in a bomber, then when straight to gun turret and opened fire on their own team mates! How do you deal with that? Luckly there were people with server access playing and they gave the A-Wipe the boot. It didn't take them long to react once they became aware of it. On the flip side once i took a few tomany hits on a bombing run, crash landed my bomber in the centre of a opposition airfield, when straight to the turret and opened up on the aircraft that were starting up. It only took a minute or so before an oposition plane nailed me but I got a few good hits. How could the game distinguish between the first action and the second? It would be dificult to program all the possible variations to keep everyone happy! Cheers! Last edited by Skoshi Tiger; 02-16-2009 at 06:18 AM. |

My idea:
As long as you stay alive you can land and start over and over again, and you'll keep your earned points. As soon you have been shot down you'll loose all your points and start with 0 again. This would force pilots to use their brains a bit more while flying. |
