Default Launcher has encountered a problem and needs to close ....

Bought through Steam early July, ran great on Quad Core .... lost motherboard, had to get new power supply, MB and AMD FX 6 Core ... Launched steam from old drive in as slave .... most games run fine w/o re DLing ... CoD (and WoP) both sadi there was new game content neded, and it DL'ed something through steam ... I believe it updated CoD as well as .net to .4.0 .... .... Now it crashers with launcher error after loading thermaste .. just before I would see the inside of the cockpit ....

I verified game data, I uininstalled, re-installed through steam, removed .net4.0 (and the game wouldn't at all) re-installed .net 4.0 and it still gives that error right at go time! .. I payed $50 for this title and meet all specs .... I read once that there might be an issue with AMD FX? ...

PLEASE help! ... it was hard to shell out that kinda cash but I wanted it real bad .... now I'm on newer faster hardware and it launcher crashes! Could someone please help me get it going again? .. Thanks SO much - Darrin

It could be related to Windows XP as reported in this thread.

On a side note (while I can't guarantee this would fix this error and I don't know if this error is related to XP at all) Microsoft offers online upgrade to Windows 8 for $40 until January.

I'm running the same copy of XP 64bit that CoD ran great on two weeks ago .... before the powersupply/motherboard/processor upgrade ....

There is a reason they are pushing 8 so hard ... I've heard there are a lot of drivers not written for it yet, and that a lot of hardware won't run forcing a lot of harware purchases ..... Any know where or who I can go to about getting n old copy of the launcher? .. I truly feel that this issue is from the "new game content' DL'ed after I rebuilt my system .... Thanks Sneaks!
You must play thief 3 DS?

Posted back in my thread also darrin .....

I've not heard positive confirmation of any existing XP user being able to play post the patch .... maybe they exist out there and if one is reading this and can play still with the existing XP rig, we'd surely appreciate that confirmation.

sneaksie, I simply don't know if XP is the issue but all pointers seems to suggest this from my limited understanding. Actually, I was thinking it to be a 32bit vs 64bit thing at play, but darrin's experience here blows a wide hole in that theory. Going to Win7 seems to be the common advice!

I am not confident enough yet with Win8 to jump on that OS for reasons similar to darrin's comments on the topic.

I would really prefer the XP issue to be looked into formally but that's won't happen ! Support has moved on!

Darrin, I've not found anything on the old XP compatible launcher either !!!

You surely have a case and maybe worth contacting Steam for a comment. I payed 10 bucks via amazon for a hard copy [authorised via steam later of course]. The principle may be the same but 10 bucks is easier to swallow than 50 and you bought on steam.

I missed any memo advising that upgrading to the lastest patch will make XP users unable to play the game. 1.05 worked for XP .... later patches all failed.
Not sure there was a memo!!

which leads me back to asking of there are any XP users who are playing the lasted patch unaffected!

Just a big let down here frankly .... and the game has such potential that we all want in too !!!!

Hmmmm!

good luck fella.

I got it to work on XP 64bit! .... I removed all game files through steam, deleted all game and 1C folders, and went through the registry and cleaned out all referenced keys by hand, then I DL'ed a pirated torrent version, installed and it works like a charm .. so the copy I paid $50 bucks for through steam won't work anymore, but the cracked one I torrented down does!?!?! ... (I choose NOT to install anything out of the redist folder ... the Steam method forces it.)

Yes, 64bit XP ... runs fine now ... I figured I wasn't gonna get much help, and I REALLY love this title, so I had to do what I had to do ..... I blasted 111s and 109s all night last night!
