Cannot join server?

I see a lot of games being played but when I join all it lets me do is pick my aircraft and that is it!

There's no 'ready' button or anything that lets me get to the next step?

Does this game not allow 'Join in Progress' or something?

Once you have chosen your plane click "create".Then click on a flag at the top and then chose a birthplace on the map.
