Is there a "training mission" available to learn how to manage an aircraft properly. All the knowledge people share in threads (some of it quite extensive) seems to me just "theory", I want a mission which objectives are meet when I have to do something like - reduce the PP to eighty % with the Radiator closed and dont overheat but reach 400mph. Does anyone know of such a mission?

No AFAIK.
Perhaps some folks/squads made some? I dunno... But believe me, while it looks quite messy, you can do it yourself better than watching any training mission. All you have to do is to; -put some time in your fav crate -get LesniHU's program called Autopilot -record many tracks and write the test conclusions/results ![]() Works like a charm. |

Well,the theory is..
I'f you have an idea.. try it out, no matter what others think. If it works, and you 'survive' - That's good practise. If you don't survive... at least we can try again, or do it differently! ![]() |

One thing you can do is go to multiplayer/create game/Dogfight/ .. pick a mission, there are a lot available so you have to experiment a little to see which one has the aircraft you want and fly in your own 'server' and you can practice without having to reload single missions.

Practice the flying part first, until you fully understand your aircraft.
Learn about how propeller pitch and manifold pressure affect your speed and heat management. Put it on Auto Pilot and look at the RPM and manifold pressure readings that the AI uses. Learn to trim. You will never get the maximum out of your aircraft until it is trimmed up properly. Be fore warned, this is a never ending process. If you move the throttle or change propeller pitch much at all, you will need to re-trim. Practice, Practice, Practice |

Use Lagg 3 early models, they are very sensible to pitch - compressor - mixture changes. Read on the manual that comes with the game the engine management on that plane. There are on the website www.mission4today.com an excellent campaign to fly with this particular plane called "red sun" or something like that. you will fight against 109s and you will need to manage your engine properly.

Some adjustments (eg. supercharger or mixture) are required for flight at altitude. If you want to get fancy and you are trailing fuel you could try adjusting prop pitch in order to increase fuel efficiency. Generally speaking, use the radiator and throttle to try and prevent the engine from staying overheated for more than a few minutes. This will avoid you blowing out your engine.
I recall a couple of interviews with Russian vets saying things like that they went to full throttle and closed the radiator until encountering the enemy and never changed these settings afterward, that older aircraft lost about 20kph due to wear and that they would have all been dead if they followed the manuals and flew "by the book"... So, I wouldn't worry about it. |
