Default Mixed up things, now stuttering...

Hi all,

Due to too much money in the pocket, I upgraded my old Q9550 with 560Ti to a brandnew i5 3570K with GTX670 GPU. Matter of fact, I thought to test the new performance I should get in CloD and played around with the settings, e.g. switching everything to max. Surprise surprise, while the game runs smooth, the stutters seems to be comparable to the Q9550/GTX560Ti setup I had before. Now I do not remember which setting needs to be reduced slightly to avoid these stutters Any hints?

regards

As with many new games on the market today, simply setting everything to max will not be optimal.

Try turning grass/off, ssao/off, trees, and buildings down.

Antivirus/windows defender/firewall off.

I plan to try whith the new patch but some say that turning off multithreading is key.

A clean installation of your o.s. (preferably win7)

Latest nvidia beta drivers help the 6 series cards.

press the ~ button and enter fps START SHOW to see any improvements with fps before and after.

It helps if you post all your sys specs too.

Good luck and lets us know if that helps!

I am a little confused by:

but I can at least give you a place to start; these are my settings, and the game runs very smoothly (without stutters) with the following settings:
Cpu @ 4.2GHz
Resolution: 1920 x 1080
All graphic details set to ‘High’
AA, SSAO and A-E set to ‘Off’
VSYNC 'On' (but "Off' for benchmark)
Grass, shadows, roads ‘On’
I use SMAA instead of in-game AA – better quality and no performance loss.
‘Black Death’ benchmark: 44, 99, 7 fps (avg, max, min)

Your machine should run these settings at a higher frame rate than mine, so I would suggest turning one thing up from here at a time – maybe Terrain to ‘Original’ and then Buildings to ‘Unlimited’, and so on. At some point the stuttering may become apparent again, then just un-do the last setting that you changed.

Well, thank you guys. Point seems to be that I have to turn back in trying different settings and see how this works out. Bad. BTW: how do I get the Black Death benchmark? Is this already included in the game or do I have to download this first.

@MajorBorris: I am certainly not going to turn off grass etc. with a 3570K@4.0GHz, 8GB RAM and a OC GTX670. This is ridiculous. But thanks for the hint with the 304.48 drivers and the "how to turn FPS indication" on. Will try that one first to get a handle on the actual FPS (however, as I stated, the game runs smooth but with stutters...)

Hi Querer,

Not as rediculous as you might think, some folks need 60fps for a smooth experience while others are fine with 30fps. When you are parked at a airfield and you pan your head left and right, if the the trees and buildings in the distance are stuttering then your experience may be less then optimized.

Note how the envirment feels while panning @60fps, if you notice a less then smooth experience at less then 60fps, you may prefer 60fps to anything less.

If you find that your frames are dropping down to 55fps and you realy need that extra 5 fps for vsync, thats where less trees/buildings or grass might be a casualty etc....

Furthermore the vram the sim needs can exceed your graphics card at max settings easily.

One other thing, use FXAA in the nvidia control panel and the other AntiAliasing options set to aplication controlled or off, set in game setting for AA to off for better performance.

Black Death is under Extras/Tracks.

This may help:

Un-zip and paste the attached copy of my file into your C:\Users\<user name>\Documents\1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover folder, over-writing the one there (which is blank by default) – I’ve added the two commands to start and stop showing the fps counter. Then, when calling up the console in game, pressing the up or down arrow will select the two commands alternatively. Typing a command when in game will write the commands to this file anyway, as well as any mistyped ones, which you can later edit out by right-clicking on the file and selecting ‘Edit’.

The problem I have is that neither the "§" key nor the "~" key nor the combination Shift+Alt opens the console. Do I have to add something in steam for the exe file?
