I see gameplay videos where there is a variable zoom view.
Like this one But I can't find an axis in the game to map this command How is this being done? thanks Last edited by SharpeXB; 04-17-2012 at 02:03 AM. |

I was always wondering this myself how Freycinet does that awesome zoom in his videos. I thought it was a control option in sim. I didn't know a 3rd party tool was needed.
I wish they would add a smooth zoom an axis similar to Rise of Flight. That works great on the x52 slider, no 3rd party stuff needed. |

it is an option in the sim, unfortunately, it only works with mouse movement by default, therefore you need a third party software like joytokey, or if you have for example ch hardware, one can use ch-manager to achieve this kind of zoom as well.
but its odd, that the devs implemented this, but only half baked, and that one is not able to set this option to a button on the stick, without having to use another software. its the same like not beeing able to use the mousewheel as an axis, which was no problem in 1946.maybe one day... |

I dont have it but I always assumed people used trackir. I thought you could lean your head in to zoom, can you not do that?

I also posted that into the bugtracker and for me, this is really an essential topic to solve, as everyone will benefit (trackir and joystick hat users). There was good will behind their thoughts, but this is not handy enough and disturbs immersion a lot (my motivation to fly dogfights with the current setup isnearly zero, because I lose my enemies too often). So PLEASE: VOTE FOR NEW VIEWING IN THE BUGTRACKER. For me and also many others, tjat I have asked, see it as highly recommended to avoid frustration! I personally will start to fly bomber, if this not change. VOTE, VOTE, VOTE ![]() |

If you have an X52 you can use the Mouse on the Throttle to zoom in/out. You have to map the mouse button (default 5 in game controls menu ) to a switch on the X52. I use the Pinkie button, while I have this pressed the joystick mouse controls the zoom.
Alternatively, using the SST software, map the Mouse control option (in the game controls menu) to a keystroke or button but set that button to 'toggle' on or off. The throttle mouse will control the zoom without having to keep the pinkie pressed .....I prefer to use the pinkie - its very simple and natural on the X52.

Yes TrackIR does this. But I didn't like all the extra movement using all 6DoF with my TrackIR. I have disabled all axis exept x and y axis movement and some yaw to look out over my hood.
Maybe if someone has a less sensitive profile I could go back to 6DoF. |

I have to say that I am using trackIR and priority is not this zoom for me ( i have als different ways to make it work with t.a.r.g.e.t. or foxy on my tm warthog).
But main fact is that the zoom of the"free view" is not coordinated with switching into gunsight mode (with shift+f1 right???). Means, that i always fully zoom in the "REVI" and also get the limted viewing angle in this mode. So, if my enemy makes turns and rolls, I am stuck in this limited view. So I have to press "shift+f1" again to release this view. At this point at the latest, I get back into the old zoom from before and it makes weird movement, as you are already looking in a harder angle than allowed before in the gunsight view. I lose my enemy everytime, when I do this or even when i forget to release the view. Am I playing with the wrong keys? I just heard others, who agreed with me in that point. So I am currently thinking, that it is like I described. Everybody feel free to help out, comment or even to vote in the tracker, if i am right! |

I wanted to get used to 6dof now, but as I already did in 1946: Just switched it back to x and y and performed akdditional important movement with axes or a hat.
Did you also encounter, that the amera is not shaking so much in the good old mode with just 2 or 3 axes. I just heard something about that, too. But nevertheless the should only go back to old style switching between the modes without limitations in angle anf with zoom factors not affected, when switching modes. Looking forward to your answers. |
