Default DCS news letter and the P-51

For those who are not signed up for the DCS news letter, I pasted a few notes here that may interest those P-51 fans

Quote:
DCS: P-51D Mustang Status
The Mustang is coming along nicely and is currently flying around the DCS world. Most of the focus is now on tuning the flight dynamics with input from a real Mustang operator. Other work continues on the P-51D audio, a very detailed engine model, missions, and the damage model. We will also include several authentic skins with the release product.
Quote:
"DCS: P-51D Mustang" Pre-Purchase
As we did with "DCS: A-10C Warthog", we will be offering P-51D as a pre-purchase. As a pre-purchase, customers will have access to beta versions of the product.
Quote:
Moving to Core-Based System
Later in 2012, The Fighter Collection and Eagle Dynamics will transition the DCS series to a core-based system. What do we mean by a core-based system? This means that the main DCS engine that includes the GUI interface will serve as the core that content modules plug into it. Such content could include vehicles, maps, campaigns, etc. This will allow purchased DCS content to be accessed through a single DCS core hub.

Not only will this allow previous and future DCS aircraft to be fully integrated, but it will also allow 3rd party content to be easily integrated into the DCS series.
The last note is not specifically for the P-51, but it does show DCS moving to a more module approach as opposed to their current 'separate game for separate item' method.. Which is something that always bugged me about the DCS stuff..

Very tempting to get the P-51, I got both Black SHark and A-10.

The problem as I see it is I mainly fligh online nowadays. It would be a very sterile experience without contempoaries to shoot down.

You mentioned that they are using their sim engine as a core and will now be building their planes and expansions around it. Even opening it up to 3rd parties.

Hopefully once the BoB team sort out the issues with the graphics engine they will be able to do the same, exciting days, months and years ahead!

I Wish both teams well with their development.

I stil have NO IDEA what they are thinking in the main office at DCS. They combined Black Shark and A-10............ I am not sure what business those 2 aircraft have being in the same AO. I mean yeah they both blow stuff up, but you cant dog fight, you cant fly formation, you cant really do anything together. Its like mixing a tuxedo, with swim trunks, yeah they are both clothes, but your not going to wear them together.

This whole idea of P-51, seem hap hazzard, with no real purpose other than "Ooh wow a P-51!!" Thats neat and all but with out anythign on the other side. The "WOW" factor is going to wear off quick.

The A-10 was built for CAS, the P-51 was built for long range A to A/bomber escort. Thats why these just dont mix.

But here is to hoping they arent just realeasing random arcraft willy nilly. and give us a 109 or 190 to go after.

If DCS put a little effort in they would have 1C chasing its tail.

Great news on being open to 3rd parties. I hope 3rd party MSFS stuff will be converted to DCS one day.

Il-2 series was started with only one plane in mind (Il-2) All fighters were added later.

Agreed. I'd love to see some Accusim A2A ww2 planes be made for DCS series with planes with actual damage model and weapons.

Yes 3rd party is good BUT there needs to be some type of QC like the way the old IL-2 series had. Modeler makes model and then sends it to 1cMG, they "QC" it and approves it. There's nothing more I hate then flying a plane with a really nice looking 3d model exterior with a crud looking cockpit or vice versa. It completely destroys any consistency and that's why I don't like many of the mod planes for old IL-2, sure I'd love to fly some of them but not with those crummy looking 3d models/cockpits. I assume and I hope this system will be in the future IL-2 series because quite frankly, without 3rd party and with regards to how long it takes to make one plane for the new IL-2 series, we are looking at a desert of extra content.

It's been over a year since release now, how many new (and I don't mean variants of existing models) flyable planes do we have in CloD? that's right, not many. I've said it before, I'm willing to pay for content if they would just make it, waiting a couple of years for new content in expansions is not gonna cut it.
