I'm sure a lot of you already know about this one. Maybe some don't. Wasteland was an amazing game that pretty much ushered in a lot of the RPG elements that we take for granted today. Even Mass Effect 3 owes a debt to Wasteland. Brian Fargo (producer of MANY key RPGs like Fallout 1 and 2, Baldur's Gate, Bard's Tale, and more) wants to make Wasteland 2 but big publishers wont fund it. We saw what Double Fine did with 'Double Fine Adventure'. There's a kind of 'gamer's spring' thing going on here that I think is absolutely important in an age where big giant publishers dictate what kind of games get made instead of what kind of games people want to play. I urge people to back Wasteland 2 (and Double Fine Adventure, but you can't now - buy it when it's out!) and help to bring about a new age of gaming where game developers can go back to making games based on what they think will make a good game instead of what will make a good selling game. Besides, if Wasteland 2 is anything like the original it'll be amazing. Just look at what happened to Syndicate. Look at what's become of MS Flight Simulator. THAT'S where things have been heading for the last 10 years. Let's turn this thing around! Plus, if you back the game you'll be able to complain on ANOTHER forum and argue that you paid for the right to do so ![]() Happy Backing! Wolverine EDIT: "Sure, backing these games is nice, but these titles are using budgets too small to make a real difference." To that I say, maybe so right now. But this is the start. If these two games take off and come out amazing and end up selling tons of copies (just look at Minecraft) then more AAA developers might start looking at this. I can't think of a developer who has anything truly nice to say about their relationship with a big publisher outside of the fact that they pay to make the game happen. If WE start deciding what games get made at this scale...it's only a matter of time, I think, before larger titles start getting made this way. Flight simulators maybe? ![]()

I'm backing both the Double Fine Adventure and Wasteland 2.
And I'd pledge 100$ the instant somebody would announce a European Air War 2 or a Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe 2. Problem is that flightsims are far more complex than 2d adventures or RPGs and the the audience smaller. But we can hope... |

I'm a huge fan of the Fallout series and I still play Fallout: New Vegas once a week. I've also played Fallout 3 but not the earlier titles. I hope this project will succeed

![]() The opening to Fallout 1 still gives me chills when I see/hear it. I'm really hopeful that fan funding like this can transfer over to the flight sim genre. Imagine fan funding a Lancaster addition to CloD with full cockpits, etc! I'd definitely put up $15 or $30 for that. The only issue is that the number of people interested in the flight sim content is lower so the pledges will have to be higher. Understandably, people are probably a little hesitant to give 1C their money in advance of anything being made. That's the only hurdle I think has to be worked out before this becomes a mainstream way of funding the games we want.
