Messages in chat window not showing

Greetings all,
I cannot get messages to show in the chat window ingame in multiplayer.
Have recently reformatted and reinstalled everything and now my IL 2 message window doesn't show any of the usual messages.
My chat settings in the conf.ini are

[chat]
region=(dx=0.57430553,dy=0.074074075,x=0.09583333, y=0.0037037036)
msg0=
adr0=ALL
msg1=
adr1=
autoLogDetail=3

I have googled this ad-nauseum with no real joy other than to add
"autoLogDetail=3" which I have done but to no avail.
It's the same with all 3 installations....4.11, UP3 RC4, HSFX 5.1.
The window opens when I hit the ` key and I can type a message and then
send it no probs but I don't see it displayed after I hit enter.
When on coms with friends they tell me they can see my posts in the
message window but I can't see theirs or any other server messages like
who shot down who, so and so crashed etc.
Kinda has me baffled as it used to work just fine and I never even had to
think about it before this.
Any insights would be very much appreciated.
