Hello, If you look in your Il-2 folder you should see the PDF manual. It says Pacific Fighters but it still applies. Online info is in there and also in this thread http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php...Off-The-Ground The formatting is a bit screwed up but it is still understandable. Also why not join a squad? most will offer lots of help and encouragement. http://forums.ubi.com/forumdisplay.php/73-IL2-Squadrons

Hi, unless you know of quite a few people its probably worth joining a squad. Many people try but unless you can offer something unique (time zone or some specialist flying) you might find it hard to recruit. If you go ahead then you will need a name and website (for details of your squad, forum etc) Then you can register at Ubi http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php...-Squadron-List or Mission4today. Good luck

Hi Flanker, joining a squad is a good idea, but not necessarily the best first step for getting online. To go online, read the end of the first post here: http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php...Off-The-Ground, about downloading and connecting to Hyperlobby. Hyperlobby is a free tool that lists and lets you join most IL2 online servers. There is also X-Fire, between the two you should have access to nearly 100% of all public servers.
You will need to update to the latest patch of the game, 4.11+Hotfix. Some of the servers still run on the last patch, 4.101. Search for patching information in another help thread, and use this for switching between the two: http://www.thefoxbats.ch/forums/view...php?f=10&t=278 Once you're online, you can get your buddy to join you on whatever servers are available, instead of figuring out how to set up a server yourself. You can join an empty server if you want to fly just with your friend. I recommend my squad's (334th) server for that, as a lot of its maps have computer-controlled (AI) planes you can shoot at. Or you can join one of the more popular servers and fly with other players. Be ready to get shot down often though, online players are much better than AI. Have fun! |

It can be downloaded and installed from here. http://hyperfighter.sk/modules.php?n...&orderby=dateA If you want to host open port 21000 UDP You don't need to open ports as a client. Once HL is installed and you have created a callsign there's plenty of people around to help you further in HL. As for squadrons in IL2 you can regster your squad here at UBI > http://forums.ubi.com/forumdisplay.php/73-IL2-Squadrons And /or Here at 1C Forums Cliffs of Dover / IL2 1946 > http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=25721 Have fun Last edited by KG26_Alpha; 02-09-2012 at 07:42 AM. |

Hi, guys. Thanks you all so much for the information and suggestion. But actually, my real issue is how to actually connect to the server.
I notice you guys suggested me to download a server connecting software. But can you also teach me the basics as well? The multiplayer interface is so different than other games, we don't just get a list of hosted games when I press "refresh" botton. It ask me about IP port, which I have no idea what does that mean. Also what if I don't want to go to somebody else's server, I just want to teach my rookie friend how to fly, how can I host a game for him to connect? Thanks again, guys

Every computer on the network has what is called an IP address, and to connect to that computer you also need a Port number...
Think of the computers being a row of houses along the street. - The street is the network connecting the houses. - Each house has a street number (The IP address) (eg: 10.45.89.239 or 103.1.59.100) - Each house has 2 (or more) doors, front and back, that you use to get into the house (The Port numbers) (anywhere from 1 -65536, there are a lot of reserved numbers)) So if you want to talk to the people (the game server) inside a house you must have a street address (IP), to go to.. and a door (Port) to knock on. The people inside, if they are expecting you, will open the door and you can go inside. If you knock on the wrong door (wrong port number), but right house, they won't answer. Very simple... The server format is 123.456.789.123:21000 123.456.789.123 -> the IP address 21000 -> the Port number (This is the default for IL2) : -> IP/Port seperator You just have to find the servers IP address and 'fill in the spaces'... Software like Hyperlobby Client (HL) does this automatically for you, and most game servers are linked to the HL server so you have to install HL client which then automatically takes you to the game server listing - Read the HL manual first. ![]()
