Talking Ultimate COD RIG MK II - Major Upgrade Underway - Quad GTX580, 990X, 1500W PSU

Am I insane... probably... The ultimate COD Rig MK II

Some of you may have seen my recent SLI & Xfire scaling tests in the performance thread.
Currently SLI doesnt scale very well with more than 2 NV cards with COD currently but hopefully that will change soon with some driver tweaks and the new game code in the upcoming beta!!

.....We'll here's whats happening with the upgrade.

I'd been mulling over for a while trying to decide if i should wait for next gen GPU's and CPU's..

Well I cracked... I have 4 new Gigabyte GTX 580 UDs in my possession and have ordered Aquacomputer blocks and SLI bridge and new 990X CPU to go with it.
Oh and some MDPC sleeving to finally finish the system.

EDIT:19-8-11 Updated list and pics
Ordered AC Kryos HF Silver CPU block and 3x AC Ramplex Ram blocks too with 24GB of (3 x 4GB) PC3-16000 2000MHz DDR3 RAM - 9-10-9-27 kits.

Of course the poor old coolermaster 1250 PSU isnt up to the task with these (it keeps doing overload shutdowns) so Ive had to order a new Enermax 1500W PSU.
As a temporary work around I've installed another 1200W supply into the MM case and it now runs 3 cards and the second UD9 MB pcie 12v connector and its mostly stable with the other supply doing accessories MB and CPU and 1 GPU. It gets through 3Dmark11 Performance settings but not Extreme and cant finish vantage without tripping overload either even with 2 1200W PSUs!
The individual rails on my 1200s are only good for 20A which explains it. They are operating right on the edge with max CPU overclock and 4 580s in benching.

Ive gone with TWO Enermax 1500's as they have 125A over 6 rails (30A each) for a total power of 1500W for GPU/CPU 12v rails as apposed to the Silverstone strider that can only do 110A (25A each) over 8 rails and max 1300W for 12v rails. The Enermax has also got some pretty tight regulation according to the couple reviews i found.

I cant believe how much power these cards draw and how much heat they generate in an SLI config. 100c on the first card without secondary active cooling, 70c on the 4th.
Ive hooked up a workable temporary solution with a 120 fan mounted above them sucking air up and another 120 blowing cooler in from the back of the cards. Dropped temps to ~70c under load for all cards at stock 795/2000.
I wasn't going to WC these so i could sell them off in a few months but they just get too hot and noisy and the performance is just amazing!

Crysis 2 DX11 ultra pack rocks with these cards.. hows minimum 100FPS with maxed out settings sound?

Ill post some pics soon...
Here's what they'll look like!

Did an inventory of the Koolance bits today... Tadah!

The ramplex manifolds I made I may use, and other manifold bit n pieces... or I may just use the extendable 180o at the back right and do a more simple serial setup for the ram blocks.

Quick disconnects, Ill probably be moving most of these away from the MB and GPU's to the Rads and Res now instead, to keep the Mboard looking cleaner. See if I like it or not.

Various Adapters, swivel joiners, extendable joiners, and plugs...

Here's the make-shift setup till everything arrives to cool these beasties down!

And a couple benchies...

Its official i am #12 Xtreme preset and Performance preset for 3DMK11!!
2nd 1500W PSU installed, all good! Koolance stuff arrived couple days ago but cant do anything with it yet.. Though I did play mechano with it at work the other day! The ram block manifold idea I had will work, just not sure if I'll like the look installed when the blocks arrive.

A little bit of heaven..

#1 spot for Adrenaline Crysis 2 DX11 Ultra Timedemo on every Map!

Cant use 4 590's its a 2 GPU card and you can only do a max of 4GPU!
The 590 has power issues and has also been known to go POP too!
No wonder.. trying to drive 60amps through a single card when people OC them will do that!

Yes a decent amount of "disposable income" plus a little insanity!
Still its less than im used to spending on cars and since I dont do that anymore this is actually way cheaper! LOL

Well, I called the last one Godzilla, so maybe this one should be Freakzilla?

Those benchmark scores are insane.

I did not no that, I have been thinking of going back to single CPU cards even though my 5970 has served me well up to now will wait for a patch but if xfire doesn't improve I will have to get a new card

24 gigs of ram? That's about 5x as much as you'll ever need for playing CloD or anything else. This computer will probably last you a lifetime.
