Ju88 A-1 bug thread

I know, i know, there are already a few out there (e.g. http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=24443). And I'm sure that there would be a more appropriate sub-forum. But I was worried that it might get lost there and now that there is a community manager I hope that this info might actually reach the devs. Fingers crossed

Since the Ju88 is one of my all-time favourites I started delving deeper into the original manuals. The Ju88 underwent literally 1000s of changes and therfore the Ju88 A-1 is very different in a lot of respects from, for example, the Ju88 A-4. Unfortunately there is far more information out there about the A-4 than about the A-1 (I'm more than happy to be proven wrong. If you have any Ju88 documents I'd be grateful if you could share them with me!).

Most of the systems of the Ju88 are implemented incorrectly in CloD when judging by the Ju88 A-1 manual from March 1940 (it is written for planes equipped with Jumo 2011B/1 engines). So I thought I simply start to put together what can be gathered from that manual. Today I will start with the propeller controls and will continue with the hydraulic system and the fuel system as soon as I find the time. Any constructive comments are of course welcome. Part 1: Propeller pitch control

The propeller pitch control in the J88 A-1 can be either set to manual or automatic. In both modes, an electrical motor changes the pitch of the propeller. In manual mode it works very much the same way than is already modeled in the Bf109 E-3 in CloD. In automatic mode a centrifugal governor keeps (or tries to keep) the RPM at 2350. The manual states the following things:

Propeller RPM: The ratio of engine RPM to propeller RPM is 1.68 (Page 0 III in the manual)

Manual control:
-The manual propeller pitch control lever is spring centered and needs to be held in the position "größer" (increase RPM) or "kleiner" to change the propeller pitch.
-The manual propeller pitch control lever can be locked in the position “Segelstellung” (feather).
-It takes about 40 seconds for the propeller to move into the position “Segelstellung” (it is interesting to note that in the Ju88 A-4 manual this time is given with 10 seconds)
-The propeller can only be moved from the position “Segelstellung” into the normal operating range by keeping the manual pitch control lever pushed forward. (Page 7 - 05)
-The 12 o’clock position on the propeller pitch indicator (it's mounted on the engine mount) equals 25 degrees propeller pitch (Page 7 – 87 in the manual)

Automatic control:
-In automatic mode a centrifugal governor keeps the RPM at 2350. (Page 7 - 05)
-The automatic control should be engaged during take-off and diving (Page 7 - 03)

-Gyro compass is not working
-bombbaydoors are opening and ( at least are trying ) closing automaticly. a freature the Blenheim should have, but not the JU 88

Hello!

Bombbaydoors works when you select separete buttons to open bombbaydoors and close bombbaydoors. If you try to use buttons "toggle bombbaydoors" it open doors and close they imimediately but when you have separete buttons they works fine.
Level bombing in 88 and 111 is almost immbossible without old IL2 level stabilator. I think that this detail some kind of compromis between simulator realism and playable would be nice.
By the way in the CloD JU88 is very fine plane to fly I like it in this simulator more than old IL2.

try it in game, select a single (or multiple) SC50 bomb, and release it from pilotposition without opening the bombdoors before. You will see what i mean.
This belongs to the Blenheim, where it is actually missing, but not to the Ju88.....

I was wondering if you have found the manual in english. I found the pilots notes translated


I realy love this plane so far and cant wait till they make it better, Im sure my list below is not all bugs so there is some niggles in there too.

Bugs?

1) The guns freeze all the time when enemy on 6. Cant fire with left mouse button and move gun(I switched it to another button but hate it). Gunner controls reversed for up-down.
2) Gyro and stabilizer function not working for me except one time on the deck going home : ( can not replicate!)
3) Manual/Emergency gear not functioning for me.
4) Feather function works automaticaly when the engine is dead but not otherwise?
5) Opening the side window does not reduce condensation on glass, lol. That would be nice though, maybe cabin heat too.
6) I think the manual pump does not transfer fuel (maybe its because the real pump was still good)
7) I thought there was a fire extinguisher (and I think I made it work once as poopy smoke came out and engine went fubar) can anyone confirm?
88 needs that switch box fully functional (fuel enricher/pump etc)
9) Missing some interior-exterior lights.
10) WEP does not work in all situations?
11) I cant cruise as fast as it should go I think.
12) Volt-Amp meter does not confirm magneto operation.
13) People tend to game crash when they fly formation with multiple 88s (88s included) ...not positive, can others confirm.
14) Engine smoke kills fps on the ground.

Hey MB, thanks for your input. The pilot notes you are referring to are most likely for the Ju88 A-4 (I believe they are a translation for the Finnish air force?!). The stuff I'm referring to is all in German.
