Default Most fun I've had with my trousers on for some time - ATAG Server

Last night I had the best mission so far in COD.

I fitted out a 110 C7 with a pair of 250 GP bombs and low level fuses. My plan was to take off and fly at low level to Dungeness to avoid being picked up by fighters. Then I would swing inland to look for airfields and targets of opportunity.

I made the English coast without any problems and then found Littlestone airfield which I went to take a look at. At first it looked baron but as I got closer I could see 4 twin engine bombers parked up. I armed my bombs and turned away to make my bombing run. I released my bombs and turned a little just in time to see at least three of the aircraft be completely destroyed. Confident that I had found a deserted part of England I made a quick gun pass and then turned for home.

At this point my squad mate joined coms and I was just telling him of my success when I spotted an airborne twin engine aircraft. "Hey there's a Blenheim here! I'm going to take it out" and then less elated "Oh no there's a hurricane as well" Just as the Hurri latched on to me. "No sure what I am going to be able to do here......probably die ha ha" I said. I was low but with high speed, I try to never let the speed get lower that 330 kph and aim for much higher at all times in the 110.

The hurricane made a pass from behind me while I still was calculating my chances of survival if I hit the deck and tried to run. .303 rounds smashed in to my left wing. With no other options I decided that I would try to exploit the only weakness I could think of and to try to out scissor the hurri....a tall order indeed! The maneuver succeeded as the hurricane over shot me and I think that he thought I was a sitting duck and probably pulled hard to get back on my tail. I turned one way and then another and I could see the Hurricane appeared very low of energy so I turned with him doing everything to keep the ball centred and my speed above 300 kph.

I wondered if I could scare the pilot into turning too hard and spinning in to the deck. I was closing on the Hurricane and managed a few shots. The next pass I got 20mm cannon hits to the side of his cockpit probably smashing the engine or injuring the pilot and he went down! I couldn't believe my luck! I have shot down a hurricane in a 110 in a turn fight!!

My joy was turned to fear when (still over England) I saw that the .303s had found their mark and that I had white liquid training my port engine. "Maybe it's just fuel?" I said to my mate.....but it wasn't the engine suddenly lost power and I was looking at a swim in the English channel. I selected the port engine and coarsened the prop pitch to reduce drag and on the starboard engine I increased prop pitch to 11:30 to give me more power. "I can't climb but I'm not going down either" I said.

Suddenly I noticed another aircraft. It was the Blenheim!! I thought for a minute he may have not seen me and was on his own bombing mission. He had seen me and they pulled along side me and raked my aircraft with .303 fire from the rear gunner! "Cheaky bugger!" after the success of this mission so far I was now going to end up in the drink shot down by a Blenheim!? I asked my squad mate to get airborne asap and to come and escort me and possible shoot down the Blenheim.

The bomber finally gave up on me and I made the French coast, I had adrenaline coursing through my veins at this point and was gibbering away over the radio. My friend swept the coast line to make sure the Blenheim had gone and I made my first one engine landing.

I wonder if I can ever beat this for excitement and sheer adrenaline.

The Bleinheim crew were all ATAG guys. S! to them for such an audacious attack and yes you did hit me

Thanks for a great game and thanks ATAG for hosting

We don't use their vent because we use our own JG5 TS3 Server.

The ATAG server is by far the best in terms of numbers online and a well thought out balance for playability. AI Bombers continuously attack targets on both side of the channel so you've got something to shoot at and they are generally medium to high altitude so it encourages people to climb and not scurry around on the deck a la airquake servers. I would recommend trying the server and using their vent I am sure there are plenty of cool guys on both sides.

SQB,

Everyone's welcome on vent. Hopefully we'll get more and more teamwork through coms as the sim progresses. We have 100 person ventrilo server for just that reason!

S!
