Default Why not use the Wings of Prey engine?

I know some may think this is silly, but I own both games. WOP leaves alot to be desired in the area of game play but the graphics are stunning. COD so far has left me disappointed at the lack of ability to run this game on decent graphic settings without bogging down your PC.

The engine for wings of prey runs like a deer and is the best looking flight sim engine I have ever seen. If Maddox took their physics and game play, but used the WOP engine, I would think it would be the best flight sim ever created. instead, we have a power hungry game that is leaving alot of long time IL-2 fans such as myself beating their head against the wall.

WoP engine is great for graphics at the expense of other factors and as such is not that well suited to what they want to do with CoD, which focuses on things other than graphics.

I won't claim it's realistic and i don't really like the "old movie look" of WoP as the main display type (it would be nice as a selectable playback feature, but when flying i like to see what the human eye sees, not what 1940s film sees ), but without getting into matters of personal taste let me just state a couple of obvious facts:

1) Maps in WoP are much smaller than the previous IL2 series, let alone CoD. The haze effect also gets rid of building pop-up and smooths the rendering process while at the same time limiting visibility range. That's how it manages to get a good density of ground objects going without crippling performance. This would be prohibitive for CoD, especially when the FMs get tuned by the developers and people start flying at realistic altitudes.

Even with the slightly dodgy FMs we currently have, i routinely fly at 6-7km in a 109 and in order to navigate properly i need all the clarity and as less post processing filters and haze as possible. Level bombing from 10km or so would pronounce this even more, we need to be able to see a lot farther than the WoP engine allows us to.

2) WoP is based on the previous IL2 engine as far as physics are concerned and as such, it would be a step back not to use CoD's new FM and DM routines. The FMs in CoD are not completely accurate in terms of maximum performance for each aircraft but the inter-connected variables are all there. Same for the damage model and the engine management, which is so complicated it easily eats up 10 FPS when you enable CEM. WoP is based on an earlier engine that doesn't do some of those things at all and does the rest following a model set by the previous 10 year old IL2 series.

I'm not dissing either game. They are both fine as long as the gamer realizes what each one is trying to achieve and in this case, the engine of one is unsuitable for what the other wants to do

that makes sense. I was more curious why they would choose to not use that particular engine.

I never said the flight model sucks. I am simply saying a marriage between WOP's graphical terrain and COD's flight model would be epic.
