Default The Ju88

How was the particular model of 88 we've got deployed in the time frame depicted?

I'm by far an LW expert, but I'm well aware that over the course of the war, the Ju88 had as many variants and applications as the Mosquito, so I'm a little fuzzy over what the appropriate attack modes would be when I'm trying to write squad training missions.

Level bombing, sure. Was there a standard profile? 3000m unless bounced, etc?

The early part of the war focused on ship strikes. Did it dive bomb? shallow dive? Were the LW slip bombing in 1940 and how do you use these funky new detonators?

Any inspirational links welcome!

From what I know, shipping was attacked using dive bombing and if I'm not mistaken they were level-bombing the cities from 4000m during night raids. A lot of anti-shipping was actually mine laying.

I really like the multi-role birds, can't wait to properly fly the Ju88.

There's two things i'd like to see in the next patch.

1) A fix for the directional gyro: Currently you can set it to match the heading of the magnetic compass but it doesn't rotate when you turn (ie, if you are flying due north you can set it to zero degrees, but it won't indicate any changes if you turn to a different heading, it will still point to zero).

This is pretty critical because level bombing is done via a course autopilot and the course autopilot functions on a correlation between the DG heading and the desired one set by the pilot.

In short, no DG, no level bombing.

2) Locking the forward firing MG so that it can be fired by the pilot: It will probably be of little practical use but it would still be nice to be able to strafe a truck or two or suppress an AA battery after pulling up from a dive-bombing attack.
That is, unless this ability started with a later model than the A-1 we currently have, in which case it would be unrealistic.

The A-1 was able to lock its frontal MG15
Reloadanimations and moveable rear MG15 , like in the Ju87 , would also be nice.

And it should get automatic shifting superchargers...

no expert either, but yes they where used in dive bombing on ships, in fact this diving ability was much appreciated by their pilots as they used this tactic even to shake of pursuers

The best of the german bombers of the Battle of Britain and the most faster. Empty was also quite difficult to intercept by the Hurricanes. Speciallity was the precision attacks , dive attacks in ships and industrial installations and key targets like the Spit factory at Southampton.

Bob Tuck states in his bio that during BOB. The ju-88`s would some time come in and low level skip bomb ships in convoy. Also when the he-111`s and ju-88`s were modified to carry torpedos, sometime after BOB. They would use the golden comb attack to get firstly hits. Then to cause confusion and to get the convoy into disorder. He also states the best to attack ju-88`s was from the front to kill the crew. Ju-88`s at the time of BOB did not have a forward firinig gun on bombers but later the bombers had a cannon fitted and of course the night fighters/ heavy day fighters had forward firing guns.
