Default Ammo Load-outs?

Ok I have seen a few people in scattered threads talking about this problem, but has anyone managed to get customized ammo load-outs to work at all?

I can set them in the planes screen, and they are saved there if I leave the game and come back, but I can find no way to actually select my custom load-outs in any kind of mission. Single player mission that is, I haven't tried multi-player yet.

The only way I know how to use them, is to edit the mission you want to fly in the FMB and select your flight and choose your custom ammo belt. Then save it, and now that mission will have your custom ammo.

I got mine to save in FMB, but I'm not sure about one thing . Is that all there is ?

I ran out of ammo in a very short space of time. I was firing in targeted burst to conserve ammo (just went to limited ammo after having it on unlimited).

I would like to know how to correctly make the loadout for, eg. the Hurricane.

for each weapon (there are 8 I think) how many belts can you load ? Do these need to be armed or loaded on the fly ?

I didnt fly IL-2 classic with full switch, so thats why I don't know these things.

The ammo loadout (i.e. AP-HE-BALL) pattern repeats over all your ammo. Sorry mate, there isn't many much ammo in hurri or spit. Short bursts or you will be run of it instantly.

Only the bomber gunners and the 20mm on the Bf-110 can be reloaded once the initial ammunition has be used up.

Yeah I've had no luck getting them to work outside of FMB settings either. You can save your convergance in the "quick" plane menu, but only on a profile you made in the FMB. As far as running out of ammo goes, yeah, it sucks. Get used to the idea of getting a kill or two if you're really lucky. There's only something like 11-14 seconds worth of ammo, and that goes really fast.

That's hard news. Thanks for the info though.

Saving a profile in FMB and using it in 'quick' sounds OK.

I have managed to change my load out for the plane in online multiplayer. I go into the plane section. Find the plane I want to adjust the load out for and select that then click on load out. I then change the type and convergenes as I want. I click save but just save it as custom can't rename it. Then I click ok, not back, and then click ok out of the plane section as well. So when am spawning plane at the base my load out appears to be loaded with the changed convergences. Remember your convergences get changed for each gun not for all at once. Also seams to be plane type dependent so need to change it for each different type of plane you want to fly.

A universal covergence setting that applies to all guns would be useful, alongside the ability to set each gun.

Yep, I agree....would make things a bit quicker and I wouldn't forget to set it for a couple of guns like I have done.

Also, I would like smoking tracers for the Brit planes......someone said that the mkIV(?) tracers were smoky.....is that correct?
Actually, it would be nice to have any tracers for the spit in single/quick missions.....I'm still not seeing any - how about everyone else?
