So according to the manual the gunsight is off and you need to turn it on. The blue reticle you see when you start, is that supposed to be the gunsight off, or is it on its dimmest settings?
Surely if it's off you wouldn't see a reticle, but I don't see any way of turning it right off so there is no reticle. I've seen some photos of gunsights without any power going through them and there is nothing to see. I can't see how ambient light light could get into the system to project any sort of image. |

I think it's a reflection of the reticle we're seeing. It's visibility depends on where the light is coming from. Realistic? Dunno.

I turned it 'ON' (I forgot the key now) and it went from dim to BRIGHT yellow, the only time I couldn't see it was when the sun was behind or something it kinda got faded briefly but otherwise it was very easy to see. Just look up the key..

lol yes I know how to turn it 'on' I'm just wondering why it's light blue when it's 'off' because really if it's off the reticle shouldn't be visible.

I think this is covered in the manual, saying that since the light bulbs don't fail like in the real thing there's no need to completely turn it off. In reality they only turned it on for combat to preserve the life of the light bulb, but since this is not modeled in the sim they decided to have it set to its lowest setting by default.
Atl+L switches between 0% and 100% brightness, but if you click and hold on the relevant controls in the cockpit you can adjust it to intermediate values as well (useful if you're flying during early morning/late afternoon, because then 100% is way too bright). |

My God does anyone actually read what I posted?
![]() This isn't a question on how to turn it on. I'm wondering if the default setting is 'off' as surely there shouldn't be a reticle if it's off...... Oh I give up............ |

That's easy. You need to kill the red dragon before you can get the magic armour.

Some reflector sights will cast an image with the bulb off, it all depends on the make, but have seen images on unpowered units.
Here's a clip of an unpowered Japanese reflector, you can see there is no bulb lit when he puts the camera above the sight looking into the projector lens. And the reticule reflection image is bluish. |
