Cant quite get my head around this. The recent videos for COD are all wide screen. Does this mean the game will be best viewed on wide screen monitors ? The problem here is that everything else on a PC is surely better suited to a 4:3 screen is it not ? I would for example have to get a pretty massive wide screen monitor to match the depth of a standard ratio 19 inch screen ?
Your expert opinions much appreciated |

You should be running on wide screen - it's pretty much the standard now.
And no, 4:3 isn't always better. It might be good for resolutions less than 1200 height, but when you get above 27" @ >= 2560x1440 - wide screen clearly wins. I notice that you were referring to 19 inch screens - if you are buying a new monitor, look for minimum 23". Last edited by recoilfx; 03-23-2011 at 10:42 AM. |

I expect Cliffs of Dover will have wide-screen resolutions to choose from. As the visual interface, and the bit where the game user traction takes place, having a nice big high definition screen in a supported resolution is what you want. I use a 24" monitor and a 37" hi-def lcd tv, both are 1080 x 1920 and many i've no doubt CloD will be able to service that resolution. Older games, even Il2, don't look so hot on the big screens as its not a resolution it was ever intended to support. There may be some mods for il2 to allow it to format for widescreen hi res monitors, but I haven't got them.
A 19" screen would seem hopelessly inadequate to me now I've been spoiled rotten by the big screens. Sitting in front of the 37" is virtually i-max. If you can afford it, and hi-def LCD tvs are relatively cheap now everyone's pumping out LEDs and 3d TVs, get one. |

22" 16:10 widescreen here and I would never go back to a 4:3
Everything is better; gaming especially but the extra screen real-estate benefits browsing and generally navigating your desktop too.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
CLOD will most probably support 4:3, 16x10 and 16x9 monitors. My take is that you shoulg get a 16x10 instead of a 16x9.. That way you get just a bit more view in the vertical. They are harder to find as most monitor (and HDTV) are now 16x9. Last edited by Zoom2136; 03-23-2011 at 12:49 PM. |

Since air combat turn and burn is all about the relative vertical, I have my widescreen turned 90 to be a thin screen. I can see straight up while looking through the gunsight ... and I can JUST see the sides of the armor glass ...
