Default War Thunder vs Il-2 1946?!?!

Hello!

A great dilemma on me! Please tell me which to play. I have a great XP with the 1946,but the graphics on War thunder are much better. Wich to choose? By my opinion, the 1946 simulator is more realistic,it have a full aircraft control, but the WT graphics... I really dont know what to choose. I really need a big specialist here for advice.

War Thunder is free to play and you seem to own 46, compare for yourself.

Unless it's a trolling attempt ?

Now the detailed answer, sad if i just fell for a troll:

WT is generally a mess, with aircraft all mixed up and wrong map, but it's a beautiful arcade game, less arcadish if you play what they call "full real" but still arcadish (often map won't fit planes, players won't be all in comms, there will be many single planes flying theire own battle). Offline is very arcadish, not usually involving take off or landing.

46 can be either arcadish or midcore or semi hardcore, depending on how you fly it.

In 46 landing with almost no visibility using radionav only is pretty hardcore, while flying circles with no cockpit and easy flight model is pretty arcadish.

Well as said before WT is an arcade flying game and Il2 1946 is more of a simulator (i.e attempting to model real life scenarios and flight models). So there you have it.

Heh. War Thunder. Pfft.

I went to the trouble of downloading a client via steam sometime last week, played it for a while but got rid of it.

It seems to boil down to "To Battle" mode and I think to do well in it you need to pay a lot of money. It's another in a long line of pay to win titles, but just happens to be war plane oriented.

Although I do have my settings in IL2 somewhere between hardcore and arcade (e.g. I don't turn off all the views, I don't use realistic navigation, I don't use limited ammo/fuel although I probably could and should do) I think IL2 is just far better than my brief experience with WT.

The only thing WT has over IL2 is that the graphics are better.

Now, although I'm not that keen on games set in the Russian front theatre of operations, I am eagerly awaiting Battle of Stalingrad, that looks real good and as the Rise of Flight client seemed to fly nicely on my PC I'm hopeful BoS will also. Just can't afford to buy into the early access program at the moment though. I'm hoping they treat it like the original IL2 though and release expansions with PTO and perhaps some BoB content...

I downloaded War Thunder the other day. It's interesting and the graphics are nicely detailed but it isn't IL-2 1946 by any means. They are barely comparable. One is a free to play grind fest with pretty graphics and quick action. The other is a serious simulation with 10 years of addons and development... it may be showing its age but it's still the king of WWII aviation simulators for now.

Battle of Stalingrad is promising. I'm playing the early access right now and it's REALLY well done. I hope its a success and features and content continue to be added.

More or less.

It's a shame, because War Thunder has a great selection of aircraft, beautiful visuals and sound, but when it comes down to the meat of it....ugh. I want to like it, but it's absolutely no fun to me whatsoever.

Default IL-2 1946 > War Thunder

Tried War Thunder for a few weeks. The conclusion I came to is that, despite it's visual prettiness, it's garbage compared to IL-2. If anything, War Thunder shows just how incredibly good IL-2 is, and further ignited my passion for it. The only real enjoyment I got out of War Thunder was with tanks on the Kursk map in Simulation Mode. Everything else is a shoot-em-up arcade fest on claustrophobic maps.

Really no comparison between the two. War Thunder caters to those looking for quick action with dazzling visual effects, and little else. However, if pretty visuals are the only priority for you then by all means go War Thunder.
