Default Coming back to IL-2

I have not played this simulation in YEARS. But I now put together a new machine that should be able to run this software very well.

Has anything changed as far as what more we can do to the confi.ini?

As a reference I still have my pacific fighters manual that set me up information on setting forest=3 and water=3 but is there more? I know there is, MUCH MORE, which is probably why I cannot find most pertinent information first.

Im up to 4.09m and think I am maxed out running confi.ini 1920x1080 and settings I mentioned above.

Anything else I should look at, or things I must know to run this on a windows 7 system?

Welcome back.

I'd recommend you take a look at Beacat's Nugget's Guide, on the Ubisoft forum: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/t...3/m/3181081438

As far as installing IL-2 under Win 7, the consensus seems to be that you shouldn't install it in the 'Program files' folder - create one for it instead, e.g. C:/Games/ or something similar. If you've already installed it in the default location, you can copy across to a new one without difficulty.

If you have 64 bit Win 7, this may be relevant too: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/t...5/m/2861000908

I'm curious as to why that may be? What are the repercussions of installing it in the program files?

Win 7 (or Vista) treats anything in 'Program files' as read-only by default, which can lead to problems.

Yes, you can't edit the conf.ini etc. Generally it's a hassle and you will always find some-sort of problem

Interesting, it seems the conf.ini file is allowing me to edit it though. I mean, I've saved the file with my changes, and when I go back the file is there, and it is saved. What could I be missing?

The other issue with program files with win7/Vista is if you have more than one user on the PC. Windows seems to want to create create a hidden entry under the users file area and store any changes there. To the original user changed .ini files etc "appear" to be in program files but they really aren't. This can cause some rather odd results when logging in as a different user.
