Default Is polished metal, with reflections, possible in the new SoW game engine?

Seeing that Direct X is now being used, and that a lot of games using it have reflections, caustics, bloom and radiosity, I make the assumption that at some point when polished Aluminum comes to the engine, that not only will it be shiny, but it could have real-time reflective properties?

Even though I now go back to a very long time ago, I still remember on the Playstation 1, racing Gran Turismo (with a 33mhz processor) the effect of reflections on the paintwork of the cars added to the believability of what you were seeing.

So, now we have Ghz processors, will we be able to see polishes aluminium with realtime reflections?

Cheers, MP

Dont know if it was with real time reflections (think so though) but Oleg have posted screen shots of a Spit in bare/polished metal to show what could be done with the game engine.

Edit: Starting from 0:37 into this vid.

Yes, it looks like they will be available. Note the indented panel lines from bump mapping or specular mapping (or something like that ).

Blimey! Can't wait for an "Aces Expansion Pack" with P-51's and P-47's in polished Aluminum escorting B-17's and B-24's!

Come on Oleg, get you finger out!

Pity that you'll have to wait a while to see those 20mm in it. Maybe after you've climbed back into your rebuilt 190, ripped apart with API .50-cal you may get a chance to. Time will tell

Seriously though, the possibilities are amazing when you consider reflective metal glinting in the sunlight. It's going to be amazing....when they come out!

Cheers, MP

But we have to wait for the BoE (Battle of Europe) Add-on when the Amis start to fly without camouflage

Mysticpuma, this is meaning that late model Bf-109's and FW-190's in SoW, and of course deadly Mg 151's like Alpha said. I hope you are right.

You will have a hard time trying to fly all the way from USA in a B17 to Germany and back.

As England will be invaded and capitulated there's no British bases any more for allied air forces in SoW by the time the B17's are entered into service

Now back to revising Op Sealion.....................

I wonder if future development of aircraft damage modelling in SoW will allow this type of damage to visible and still be flyable (in shiny Ally of course)!!

RTB's after a flak hit

B-17G 43-38172 of the 398th BG damaged on bombing mission over Cologne, Germany on 15 October 1944.
Pilot 1st Lt. Lawrence De Lancey brought the wounded Fortress back to Nuthampstead, UK, where photo was taken.
Notice the upwards effect of the anti-aircraft shell; the bombardier was killed.
