How to equip a new ship ?

Hello,

I played and finished Star Wolves 1 and 2...
But in the 3rd i can't figure out how to equip a new fighter ?

I mean i am at the beginning of the game, just acquired the heavy transport
and now i have enough money to buy a 10000 credit fighter, but after buying it i am not finding the way to assign it to my character...

Tryed to drag and drop the fighter on my character slot once docked on a station... tryed to double click directly on the fighter... tryed to drag and drop my character's avatar slot onto the fighter...

There is something i am doing wrong and i'd like to now what
