Default My Impressions to this Point

OK so I'm a nobody and I'm damns ure no one cares what I think about this game but thats what forums are for so... I find I still play this game all the time but almost exclusively in training mode. I work A LOT and so I'm not usually online when the sim/realistic guys are one. I decided last night to hop on line to see what was shaking and as always nothing but Arcade games. I was able to find a CTA match with 12 players which was great but by the end there were 4 of us left and I think I know why besides the glitchiness... These online arcade games are complete mayhem alla Blazing Angels, this one guy on my team Hartmann77 must have taken 10 kills from me, he'd fly directly between a guy I had smoking and me and always end up shooting him down and I noticed this happening with other guys, eventually I quit as well frankly its too easy and gets very boring. Its almost like this game has two distintive personalities, one where you can fly a hurricane at mach 1.3 and one that only a fraction of players play that is enjoyable and actually requires some sort of tactics. I guess this was made for the masses so I'm not complaining I just think there is no need whatsoever for the Arcade mode, Realistic should be the base setting at least the planes are sort of accurately modelled at that point and they're still hella easy to manage. Blah blah blah, I'm bored sorry I just think Arcade is a complete waste of the money that went into this game... Oh and quit stealing peoples kills you f*cking wankers You know who you are >)

This kind of post normally gets my back up but I found great review of BOP on Eurogamer with a great paragraph that sums up:

"The forgiving physics makes it easy to pull off manoeuvres that would be virtually impossible on the higher difficulties. Throwing your plane into a screaming, banking dive, skimming rooftops and then hurtling into a loop while tearing the wings off a Stuka is a genuine thrill. Flying right through the midst of a Messerschmitt squadron, guns blazing, and seeing a hail of fuselage parts roar past your canopy in balls of flame never gets tired. Faced with such cathartic moments, you'd have to be a fairly joyless simulation snob to not see the visceral benefit of more accessible gameplay."

You can't steal a kill, you can only take too long shooting someone down. It's called dogfighting for a reason.

And +1 to Wookie.

The only problem with arcade, IMO, is how long it takes to shoot someone down (both the fault of the tricky aiming and the high damage resistance). So if you're after kills, you're going to go for the guy who's smoking - much to the annoyance of the guy that spent the last 10 minutes getting him smoking in the first place.

Other than that, it's great for people that just want to fly and not worry about all the technical crap. I started on arcade and had great fun with it, but the potential of instant kills lured me into realistic, and from there to sim.

You need to add some of the regulars who play SIM and Realistic levels. They are on most nights. Which console are you on and what time zone?

The game search function is a problem but having a friends list of the the people who play your preferred level will ease the frustration. Alternatively, host a few sessions and wait for peeps to drop in.

BTW, each level has its devotees and some migrate to and fro across them whilst others only play a particular one and peeps get a bit defensive if someone says one is better than the other. Don't be suprised or offended if you get a few curt responses.....after you have been on here a while you will get used to it!

you can't steal a kill you can only take to long shooting him down. And Capture the airfields is a team game so stop complaining, you aces in sim are not aces in arcade big deal. You would have been whinning even more if you were the one getting chewed on by hartmann77, you don't like aracde no one made you play it. It's a real shame for you the majority of the community plays arcade (the mode you claim to be a waste) my heart bleeds, man your "I'm not complaining...... but i think aracde is a complete waste of money that went into this game" made me ROFL; the physics required in simulator mode are more expensive to replicate as they require much more code to make up for the variables.....more code more time coding more time testing checking what bugs said coding caused to happen equals more expensive more time consuming.

Home truths...

1) in online Deathmatches your kills get taken...true of all dagdagdag games...
(if its a teammate then "go team!"...)
2) in arcade on il2 you'll get chewed up by regulars in a small selection of the available planes that turn well...get used to it...
3) In realistic/sim you'll need to use the spit or La or you'll get out turned when numbers are small or 1 on 1.
I try to use the 109 and get bfd! everytime I face a spit. Yet last night faced a k4 in a g2 and hey presto 7:1 to me.

now suck it up all of you and flame me till I fart!

+1 Shadowcorp
+1 Winney
+1 dkwookie

I think winney sums it up nicely. I play in all 3 modes yet have come to choose arcade as my preference for exactly that 'crash bang' effect. As shadow also states cta, strike and teambattle are 'team' games and therefore I don't care who gets a kill and in whatever way either. Come play with me hauptman as there's not a hope of me 'stealing your kill' as i can't hit a cows arse with a banjo in a fighter but I'll fly and bomb the backside of any target in a
bomber. I know what I'm good at and just make sure I have team mates who can fly fighters. Do I care if I've spent 5 minutes shooting at someone from the rear turret only to have someone fly up behind and take him down, do I care if i spend time dropping bombs on bunkers to have someone fly over in a po2 and steal the 'kill'? No not at all, it's a game at the end of the day and an f'ing good one at that. Get to know some people, learn from them and their respective expertise and build a 'squadron' of friends you can rely on and play with, maybe then you won't get so upset when a 'friend' steals 'your kill'. The community and it's spirit is what really stands this game out from others so use it.
