Setting IL2 on 16:9 widescreen?
Did a search and modified the config file to some of the recommended settings. Could someone explain if these settings are supposed to display the game correctly using the full width of the screen?
At the moment the game is displayed with black edges but at least it looks correct as opposed to being 'stretched' to fit the wider screen. I notice in the config.ini file two settings (highlighted in RED) with 0 or 1 flags, but what are the effects of changing these settings? My original config.ini is shown below. I have two 16:9 aspect PC monitors, one of which is a HD 1080i eqivalent (VGA 1920 * 1220 or thereabouts) and the other a standard 17in VGA PC monitor. Am I right in assuming that when changing the INI file you must enter the resolution as set out in the specification for each of the Monitors. N.B. I haven't decided which to use yet. width=1024 < Screen res width
height=768 < screen res height SaveAspect=1 < change to 0 |

Cheers, the 'saveaspect' flag is the one I haven't changed. I will try that!

Just be aware that once you finally get your widescreen working (no black stripes), your actual horizontal FOV (Field of View) will not increase at all. However your vertical FOV will actually DECREASE a certain amount, depending on the aspect ratio of your monitor.
For instance, a 16:9 monitor will lose even more vertical FOV than a 16:10 monitor. Aviar

I noticed that Aviar and would prefer to have the default view and the edges blocked out. It is working correctly in widescreen at a resolution of 1270 x 768 with nice round dials but with a loss of vertical like you point out. I set it up for the default view and the menu appears correctly with the edges blacked out but the view resizes to the full width when you start a game so I assume that I need to change the config.Ini setting which prevents resizing and distorting the view. Does look nice in widescreen though.......

I'm with you. I also prefer to use the game's default 4:3 aspect ratio, so my 24" widescreen LCD has the black bars on either side. However, my overall FOV is LARGER than a player who uses their entire widescreen, so I'm happy with that.
It would be nice if TD would incorporate true widescreen support into one of the upcoming patches. Aviar
