After 20 hours constant crashes

Weird..

I played nearly 20 hours without any issue. Now the game crashes every 2-3 hours, resulting in a black screen (monitor signals no picture at all), no chance to get back to the desktop.

Windows XP SP3
GeForce 8800 GTX (happens with 175.19 and 178.13)
DualCore 6600
2 GB RAM
Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS

Happens with mods (Interface and camera zoom) and without.
