Smile Rampage IV Extreme + 3930K rebuild with 4-way SLI GTX580

Hi All,

I didnt bother posting any updates on my last build, but I did just about get it all finished over christmas. The replacement RMA 990X for my X58 UD9 build was degrading too and no longer stable so I decided to grab an Asus Rampage IV Extreme and 3930K CPU to upgrade as it was about the same price as a replacement 990X. (thats if you can even find them now!)

I will be re-using everything else in my system including the 4 Way GTX580's all the water blocks and the Corsair Ram for now.

In addition I will be using the new VGA hotwire feature to voltage mod the cores on all 4 GTX580. I will probably upgrade the Ram to a 4x8GB kit and get the koolance Rampage IV motherboard water block in the future too.

I'll update the thread with a full list of the components and photos when I get started in the next couple days.
Wish me luck!!

Once you get going we can compare note and any issues . In some ways we have a similar builds and a passion for excessive hardware. (See my sig...)

Once my system is stabilized I will be adding the Koolance MB block as well.
.

Looked at your issues but strangely (maybe) i dont have any of them.
Nice Build!

I finished the rebuild last night and all is good.
I will be restoring a lot of my games/data tonight and do some CoD benching before and after OC. (I did a fresh install) Ill post some pics too and maybe a video if I have time.

Over the weekend Ill get into some serious GPU voltage tweaking with the hotwire feature to see how far these GTX580s can really go!
Im hoping for 5.1Ghz on the CPU and 1100/2200 for the GPUs.

For some reason the intel raid config rom was defaulting maximum capacity to less than what was actually available. I over rode it and put in the figure of my old raid set and it worked!

Now I can take some pics while the restore is underway!

First bench done with my first manual OC @ 4.7Ghz 1.45v.. 100x47 Ram @ 2000Mhz

I know you want to see CoD figures... Ill do that now!

Not bad! Bios was a little confusing but once I worked out where everything was and what it does it starts to make sense.

CPU Now @ 5Ghz

This draws 1120W from the wall on 1 PSU and 740W from the other! (@240V)

Nice score!

Interestingly it beat my quad fire setup in every test, but physics test is very close, so I don't think it is due to a higher OC.

shows how important it it to choose the right PSU(s) I'm running 1200 / 860 combo.
