Description
An F-14B "Tomcat" assigned to the "Jolly Rogers" of Fighter Squadron One Zero Three (VF-103) flies in formation with a pair of MiG-21’s assigned to the Croat Air Force. VF-103 is part of a detachment from Carrier Air Wing Seventeen (CVW-17) embarked aboard USS George Washington (CVN 73) participating with the Croat Air Force in Joint Wings 2002. Joint Wings is a multinational exercise between the U.S. and the Croat Air Force designed to practice intelligence gathering. George Washington is homeported in Norfolk, Va., and is nearing the end of a scheduled six month deployment after completing combat missions in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Southern Watch.

Thanks for the info! I will definately be getting this, but I wish someone would do a Hunter or Lightning. I suppose with this third party development opening up anything is possible though.

EDIT: Since this is third party, do we have to own any of the DCS games beforehand? If anyone knows.

I plan to get the P-51 but don't have the budget right now, and haven't got the other two (A-10 and Blackshark) since they don't really interest me, I'm more interested in props and early cold war jets, which is why this is perfect really.

I'm pretty sure you need either one of the DCS games, yes. Not 100% sure though. The answer may lie here.

I'm happy to announce my first independent 3rd party module - "DCS: MiG-21Bis Fishbed". This new module development is based on the new 3rd party License agreement/support that was previously announced by TFC/Eagle Dynamics. I plan to release MiG-21Bis later in 2012.

The MiG-21Bis is considered a third-generation, supersonic, jet fighter. It's avionics equipment ensures day and night operations in fair and poor weather conditions. Some 50 countries over four continents have flown the MiG-21, and it still serves many nations a half-century after its maiden flight. The MiG-21 broke a number of aviation records and it is still the most produced supersonic jet aircraft in aviation history.

"DCS: MiG-21Bis Fishbed" includes both Air-to-Air and Air-to-Ground capabilities that includes various conventional weapons like missiles, rockets, bombs, and a built in 23mm cannon. "DCS: MiG-21Bis Fishbed" will also use less widely known weapons such as some advanced air-to-surface guided missiles, retarded and general purpose bombs, and some special devices.


Features of the "DCS: MiG-21Bis Fishbed":

• Highly detailed six-degrees-of-freedom cockpit with dynamic shadows. Interact with cockpit controls with your mouse like previous DCS products.
• Accurate airframe and realistic 3D cockpit model.

• Russian and English cockpit texts and hints

• Improved and more realistic airplane behaviors that are based on real MiG-21Bis pilot tests and instruction.
• More than a twenty high detailed aircraft skin with unique stencil texts.
• More than a dozen new deliverable weapon.


"DCS: MiG-21Bis Fishbed” is developed by Laszlo 'beczl' Becz in association with The Fighter Collection and Eagle Dynamics. Further information will be provided as development progresses. I will be providing Work In Progress (WIP) screenshots, videos, and other product information.

Only thing that concerns me here is who is responsable for validating the filght model? In that what typically kills flight sims that allow 3rd party stuff.. Take the MS CFS stuff.. P51s with F15 flight models is just no fun for me

Well Ace, from what I understand -and I've read like 50 pages of the MiG-21 thread- the add-on will be called DCS: MiG-21bis. This essentially means it will have the same high fidelity as ED's own stuff. ED will check the plane thoroughly before approving it for release. You could say it will have the ED "stamp of approval". The guy working on it is a well known modeler in the DCS community and he has tons of official -some classified- documents on the MiG-21bis plus he's working with pilots that actually flew (still flying) the thing and engineers.

It's basically an official DCS release, just developed by a third party, the guy responsible for the MiG-21bis have an actual contract with ED so it's actually semi-third party if you think about it. I don't know what type pf deal they have, that's between ED and "beczl" (the MiG-21 dev).

P.S It's essentially the same deal as with the old IL-2 series, modeler makes plane, sends to MG, MG approves, plane goes in to next patch. Except the third-party in this case most likely is getting economic compensation for his work.
