Default using mousebuttons and wheel??

after six months of the release of the game i have to ask again:
has anybody managed to use his mouse for different functions as the default ones?
i can look into the controls menu and my mousebuttons are listed for some functions by default.
but if i want to assign for example the left mouse button to a different function, nothing will happen.the menu doesnt seem to register the mouseclick at all.im also not able to make my mousewheel behave like an axis.thats really annoying and was really easy in 1946.

I use the mouse in my left hand (looking around) MSFFB2 in the right and keyboard just above the mouse pad.

I don't use TIR as it make me feel nauseous.
With the mouse I can leave the view set in one position which is useful for ground target acquisition .

The mouse wheel needs to be "assignable" for Prop pitch (in my case) or other scalable controls in the hotas settings as in IL2 1946.

ok i just found out, that if one wants to assign any function to your mousebuttons, one have to actually click next to the pop up window and not into it....

meaning if you want to change your controls, you click on the one you want to edit,...
then a pop up window appears, and inside this pop up window, there is this bar where the relevant button will appear when you hit it.so if you hit the keyboard button E for example, it will show up in this bar inside the pop up window....
now i think everybody who wants to assign his mousebuttons to any control, tends to click inside this bar, which doesnt work....
i just found out that you have to click slightly above this bar, that your mousebuttons will be recognized.

but im still struggling without success to assing the mousewheel to an axis...

ps:i hope this post makes sense to the readers and is comprehensive

I use the Logitech quadrant , it is exelent for the propeller pitch, mixture and throttle and gives the "right" feeling. Just saving up money for the trim-whee.
