on the desert map i get snow capped mountains in a ca. 10km circle around me but only when a map is reloaded like at by.sturmovik.de:21004 when the same map is reloaded with a different Frontline.
When i start the game everything is fine.

Hhhmmmmm...are either of you guys using an AGP card? If so, that's most likely the problem. The last couple of CAT releases have not 'played nice' with the AGP cards.
The last good CAT version that worked with all of the AGP cards was 7.6. |

i had the same problem with the previous ati drivers, so had to revert to an older version as well (using a 1950pro AGP card btw)

Yes, what Uther said is correct. I have a PCI-E 1950Pro and my FPS went down by a third with the 7.12 Cats. I went back to 7.11 which runs fine (best drivers for ages, imo).
Conversely, a wingie with an x2900xt reports significant improvements to FPS and IQ using the 7.12s B

no i have Dual X1600 Crossfire running but after a couple of reboots and seems to be running fine now.
I believe there High Definition drivers thats why. yes I did lose about 175 FPS from the benchmarks.

I run a 2900XT and the 7.12s are by far the best drivers so far for me in all games I play. I very noticeable difference in IL2. As always newer drivers usually dont fair to well with older gen cards. My suggestion is if you own older gen cards and dont play the latest games or have Vista stick with previous drivers that gave you the best performance. The artifacts that you see is most likely an issue with ATI or nvidia and not the IL2 engine. Of course the best way is to test, test, and test again. Gets old, trust me I know.
