I don't recall Freetrack working with the PS3 Eye just yet.

Works well with FaceTrackNoIR though, I'm on CL-Eye-Driver-4.0.2.1017:

I and many others are using FT 2.2 with PS3 Eye, you need AlexP's CL driver (linked above) and the FT files released for the PS3 eye to work with FT2.2. The FT files can be found in a PS3 eye thread in Cliffs of Dover or over at the SAS forum where all the files you need (including driver) can be DL'd.

I will see if I can find a link for you.

here you go.....

This is great, I stand corrected! The Freetrack site still doesn't have the PS3 Eye listed as compatible, and I didn't realize there's a patch fix.

I've been wanting to compare Freetrack to FaceTrackNoIR.

Two questions, FaceTrackNoIR doesn't need the IR filter removed, do you have to remove or modify the filter for Freetrack to work well? (I'm assuming I would). Did you make your own clip or do you use the one from TrackIR?

There are two versions of the PS3 eyecam, one you can remove the IR filter the other you cannot. Many with the non removeable filter model say it works just as well with IR LED's. You can tell which is which by the outer lens or wether it has a white ring around the inner lens. The link below describes the differences (if anyone wants one with a removeable IR filter).

I made my own LED clip but you can use a 'trackclip pro' if you prefer and a some do that rather than make one.

I have FT running at 100fps using the PS3 eye cam as opposed to 30fps and a x4 multiplier with my old VX1000 webcam. I used to have TrackIr 4 but FT with a PS3 eye is equally as good (needless to say I sold my TrackIR on EBAY). FT software has user advantages over TrackIR, particularly for CloD.

Thanks again for all the info! \

I have the PS3 Eye that can be modified. Did you remove the IR filter and replace it with an IR band pass filter, or did you just remove the filter, or did you clean the IR filter off using alcohol or something, like the first link mentions?

I took it out! I couldn't get the 'wipe the coating off' method to work and tried several different fluids. I would try it with the IR filter lens in place and if it does work fine with IR LED's (as everyone seems to report), you can use the cam for headtracking and as normal. If you do remove it, then the focuss will be slightly off (which is ok for headtracking). The case is a bit of a pig to separate and needs a bit of 'persuading' even though there are no screws holding it in place.......

I used the 'floppy disk' film suggestion to cover the lens (or fit inside the cam as most vids describe). It's all fairly straightforward and tons of info on the net/Youtube etc.

I'm using a ps3eye, with freetrack, without removing the IR filter, just added a developed camera film to cover the lens and it works very good, so no need to remove it if you are not sure of what you do or you worry to broke it.
