Installed and runs but horrible performance

I have a Dell XPS 700 with 4GB RAM, 2 Nvidia 9800 (? how to check that?) graphics cards and loads of free disk space (305GB free out of 698GB).

Win 7 DX10...

The game downloaded and installed OK and it runs, but even with all of the advanced graphics options set to Low (Forest off, grass off, etc.) and screen resolution reduced to 1900x1600 [I have a 20" flat panel display ] the game is jerky and basically unplayable. Plus the ground looks pretty awful with those settings - not half as good as BoB 2 or Il2 46.

I even started up Il2 1946 again to compare and '46 is a hundred times better looking on my rig, except for the interior cockpit views.

Advice please? Any way to get this game to run smoothly?
