Default Spits vs. 109s 4.10 is awesome

Recently fired up IL2 again (its been over a year since playing online) since the new patch and just wanted to say the Spits vs. 109 server is where it's at.

Full switch, maps look updated already with icons on them, new aircraft...it's a blast to fly online! I love trying to navigate using just the map, it's almost as fun for me as dogfighting.

Just a couple things that confuse me, I need some help:

1) I hear random messages saying "fighters 1 oclock!" or random vectors to targets every now and then...when I never see any fighters. What are these vector instructions telling me?

2) Can I use the new radio navigation to find targets? I normally like to be a bomber...how do I set this up? Or do I still need to fly to target by sight alone?

One other thing, the pilots that fly here are GOOD. Check your six alot I died quite a bit haha. Have fun and try it out! Thanks to all who run this great server!

Answer to the first question: This is because some of the friendly units found an enemy, but the friend in question is not at your location. This is an issue i would like to be corrected in future pacthes and AIs must indentify himself and positions before call "enemy at one clock". Acctualy this info has no much use since you do not now the location of AI calling the radio.

Yeah it is a bit confusing, Luckily I followed the AI in a winter map mission and when they called out that there were enemy fighters nearby I looked around and found 2 Spits inbound, what happened then I wrote over at the "4.10 is out thread"

But if you do not see the AI the messages are pretty useless and only cause confusion.

About the new radio function, no you cant find targets with it, AFAIK, the enemy is not broadcasting there position to bombers, though that would be very helpful for the bombers again AFAIK it was used to mark certain key positions like friendly airfields or recognition points for fighters to meet in the air.

Thanks Sven that makes sense haha. I doubt the enemy would want to do that your right.

What do you guys use for your rudder settings? I have CH pedals that are a few years old. They are pretty touchy right now. Do you give them a little deadzone? Increase their bands in the IL2 settings similar to a joystick? (10,20,30..ect.) I always found my rudder settings kind of loopy.

I'll have to get on comms one of these nights and plan some bomber raids. That's my favorite thing to do. I'm just not very good at it.

No experience with that, I never touch any settings like joystick ones or rudder ones ( G940 here) so I wouldn't know Mine work fine though, I think...

Pretty cool! There really were bomber formations (3 is already a formation) with fightercover!!! I managed to down one (probably by the first headon) and damage another, but bent my plane as I got chased and had to ditch. That was fast, inexpected, highly entertaining and enjoyable action out of a kind of routine patrol!

One curious question about this excellent DF Server: last night I joined Spit-vs-109 4.10 server (from long ago) and noticed two funny things, new for me:

- First: every pilot joining received a salutation from the Server (this is common in DF Servers) BUT, in this case including not only the pilot's country but the pilot's town as well! (I suppose the town where the pilot is getting connected). This was recorded in my Logfile.log file.

- Second: after getting a kill, not messages like "XXXX has shot down YYYY" were shown, but just "YYY has been killed". So none knew who had shot down who.

Is this a "new" policy of the Server, is this something new in the 4.10 Server patch , or do I have something wrong in my rig?

Cazador, as far as I know it has been a policy of the server for more than a year already. I asked about it and the Admins says they remove several server messages to not clutter the chat bar and allow important info to be show more easily, and as second reason to avoid certain level of bickering between players.

You can easily ID who you just shot-down but not always know who take you out, at least they Salute you.

Great Server the Modded one, flying the 4.10 classic from time to time to check the nice new features. Modded one will integrate them sooner or later. Check their website, many great guys there as pilots, admins, map makers and friends.

Saludos desde Argentina
